A long time ago in the 1840's stood a big building, Elmwood Asylum.

The mentally ill was put into this place.

They were not treat very well, they had three sections in this hospital, the children, and the men.

On a daily basis they were pricked and poked with needles.

Everyone was put on medication, which they took everyday.

They walked around in zombie mode, and their speech was erratic at times.

The women were also placed in a certain floor of this hospital.

Sometimes, a patient in the asylum would try to fight off the guards.

It could be very loud in that place, but at times you couldn't hear a pin drop.

Some of the people were not taken care of properly, they had to hire and fire many workers.

There was this one patient, her name was Mary, she was only 20 years old and severly damaged from her illness.

She would sit in her closet everyday for hours, writing wicked things on the wall.

She kept saying that satan is her god. She would scratch the wall over and over again, until her fingers blead.

Mary was one of the patients that didn't make it.

She eventually commited suicide, she found a way to hang herself from the ceiling.

She left a bloodied note on the wall saying

" satan came to get me."

She was suffering from schitzophenia.

The voices in her head became stronger, just before she ended her life.

This is one, of many that never made it out alive.

The system had failed to many people, suffering from mental illnesses.

Many of the long term patients in Elmwood Asylum were buried on the grounds with an un marked plot.

Many families didnt care about what would happen to the body after they were gone.

Eventually Elmwood Asylum was closed down and the building was left standing there abandoned.

Rumor has it that many dark spirits lurk around the building, and some still live inside.

Professionals were sent to cleanse the inside of the building before actually tearing it down.

It was left there for tourists to visit and learn about the history of Elmwood Asylum.

Walking down the long corridors, you can still hear voices, laughing.

The untouchable spirits were the worst ones to come across, because they were the angry ones that still remained inside and to them that was home.

Some closets, you can still feel the energy of spirits because that was the one place many had spent their time.

When you walk into a room, windows and doors open and close.

You can still hear babies crying or the moaning sounds of some spirits in pain.

These spirits are trapped inside, the only way to get rid of them is to cleanse the building.

Sometimes, the grounds keepers can hear the sounds of many spirits fighting on the land. They have heard way to many things that made them jump out of their skins.

Some of them don't want to leave because that was their home, while others were content after their soul was released.

If you walk by the building, you can feel them around you.

It gives you a chill across your back, just lurking the hallways, you can feel the sense of panic in the unwanted souls.

As you walk by the building, the lighter you feel because the further away you go, the less energy you feel.

Today, many spirits still hang around the grounds.

Nobody really knows what happened to these people a long time ago, and nobody will ever know, what really happened.

An investigation took place at the asylum. There was to many unexplained things happening. Every year when some patients have passed away, their spirits remained in the building.

Because of how they were sent to their death, some spirits were angry ghosts that stayed in the asylum because their message was not clearly sent to where they wanted it to be.

Elmwood asylum was a place that you did not want to send any family members to.

Back in the days, patients had no choice to be in their because it was the only hospital around meant for the mentally ill.

When family members would come to visit, they were only allowed to be there for 30 minutes maximum. The patients had their plans made out for them, some do the same things every day, and would not tolerate any changes made. They were put on high dosages of meds and without it, they were not the same people. Some patients were like an animal in a cage.

Some patients had to be locked up and were not allowed any visitors.

Some of the hospital workers have seen unexplained images wandering around the halls. There was this one image that comes by every so often. A few workers have described the same kind of energy. It was a woman holding a baby in her arms. She appears every so often, and what you hear is the sound of a baby crying. The energy is so strong, and then a cold chill comes across your back.

The woman's spirits name was Angelina. She fell in love with one of the guardsmen in the asylum, and had his baby.

The baby passed away while giving birth.

Angelina could not accept it, that her baby didn't live, so they placed her on heavier meds.

As a gift they gave her a doll, that looked just like a real baby.

When she was living in the asylum, she never left the dolls sight, and treat it like it was her baby. When she passed away, the doll went with her.

So when some of the workers saw her images in the asylum holding a baby, that was really her doll that was always crying.

Her spirit never left the place because that was the only home she ever knew.

She was placed in Elmwood Asylum, as a three year old child. They were just like her family, she passed away by the age of 30.

So her spirit still travels the abandoned hospital and she was also seen sitting by her grave site, right on the hospital grounds.

Some tourists liked to visit the structured building. Inside the place you can still smell some of the patients.

Some people say that the scent is so strong at times, thats because what your really smelling, is a spirit thats passed on by you.

Another group of people that visited the place were so scared to look around, even though the place was empty.

Just going from room to room, you could imagine what had happened. These patients were not treat with kindness. They were treat like criminals.

When Elmwood Asylum was put under investigation, many of these patients were transferred to other hospital in different cities. They were examined, and said to be highly dehydrated and highly medicated.

The asylum was checked into thoroughly, there was mold growing everywhere throughout the building. They were bombarded with roaches. The stench in the rooms were enough to make anyone pass out. These patients were being abused on a daily basis.

The Asylum was never opened again for patients. It was closed down and used for tourists purposes. When you walk through the gates and into the yard, there is a small cemetary only made for the patients in the asylum. There were years and years of people who lived there, and buried on the grounds.

The groundskeeper have seen and heard many things over the years.

They have saw many spirits come and go.

The creepiest thing to do passed midnight was to walk through the cemetary.

Some angry ghosts are lost and will not go into the light. They were not ready to accept their death. Sometimes, you can hear two or more spirits at the same time fighting. Their minds still belong to the asylum.

Elmwood Asylum, a place you would not want to call as your home.

Many patients lived and died there. These were their stories left untold.
