The Abbasid Caliph Mamun-ur-Rashid, one of the proponents of the Mutazila doctrine on the creation of the Holy Qur'an, summoned his opponent, Imam Ahmad ibn Hamble, to ask if he had adopted the Mutazila doctrine. Imam Ahmad Ibn Hamble (Rah.)He replied very firmly, ‘No, the Holy Qur’an is the word of God Almighty, how can the Qur’an be considered as creation?’ Mamun-ur-Rashid sent him to jail in a rage.

Seeing this aggressive look of the Imam, the most insidious patron of the Mutazila, Abu Dawood, to provoke Mutasim, said, ‘Amir al-Muminin, this man is astray and he has the power to mislead others. Your state jurists and judges are sitting in front of you. You ask them, see what they say? 'What they say is clear! They all unanimously issued a fatwa calling Imam Ahmad ibn Hamble (Rah.) A misguided and misguided person; But Imam Ahmad ibn Humble (ra) refused to change his view. Caliph Mutasim Billah said, ‘Ahmad! You accept my opinion, I will put you in a special position in my court; Then you will hang out with people who are proud to walk on this expensive carpet. Imam Sahib said, "Well, I gladly accepted your offer, but you have to give me proof of support from the Book of Allah and the Hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him)." They thought, I don't know, the caliph changed his mind. Then everyone shouted together, ‘Amirul Muminin! This man is a disbeliever, misguided; This will corrupt everyone. 'One of them shouted,' Amirul Muminin! You will not leave the man! Punish him severely. 'Mutasim ordered Imam to be whipped 80 times in public.
The Imam's own account of this atrocity is as follows: When he first struck, I said, "Bismillah." ‘La hawla wala kuwata illa billah’. ‘Al Quran Kalamullah Ghaira Makhluk’. ‘Cool Lan Yushibuna Illa Ma Kataballahu Lana! Look how fun it is. 'I don't know how long he has been there. I fell unconscious. After a while, when I regained consciousness, I saw that he was no longer beating.
Mutasim shouted, "Still obey me, I will let you go." I did not have the answer to his words. I remained silent. The executioner shouts, ‘You can’t hear the caliph! You don't listen to him! He is talking like crazy and killing all the strength of his body. Mutasim stops when he gestures. Then he asks, ‘Ki Ahmed, still listen to me, I will let you go.’ But I have nothing to say. He tried several times like this, but he and his executioner couldn't get anything out of my mouth.
As a result of the injury, blood flowed like a stream from the Imam's body, he lost consciousness. The caliph ordered him to be imprisoned. He was released from prison two years later. Imam Sahib was then ordered to reach his house. Mutasim could not breathe a sigh of relief after the incident that day. He is almost half-insane with intense remorse and strange nightmares. He repeatedly sent people to find out the condition of the Imam. Then gradually the Imam recovered; But he felt very cold in both hands and both lips. He had this problem till his death.
