This was the unexpected business of my niece and my sister-in-law. They suddenly planned to cook a sandwich and sold it online and even outside the house. They became partners in this business.
It is called the crispy sandwich. They named it from my son so it became Nathan's Crispy Sandwich. It looked like the "kariman" that we bought in a convenience store.
It is callled crispy sandwixh because it is just a simple slices of loaf bread which can be seen in the store or groceries or market. Then one slice is enough and it needs to be flattened first. Since they don't have a rolling pin, they used a glass then it will be rolled in the bread until itt is flat. It is also better if it's a dough but since they don't know how to make it, bread is a good alternative. Then, the bread will be folded into 2 with chosen spread or fillings inside. It will be dipped in a bowl with egg mixture so that the bread crumbs will held tightly the folded sandwich. Then, it will be fried in a pan with oil in a lowheat only. They need to strain it to lessen the oil from the bread. Finally, once it is golden brown, it can be served to customers. It is crispy and hot.
How Did It Started?
My sister-in-law took a 2-month vacation in their province in Iligan City, Mindanao. It was supposed to be a 1 week vacation only because she just accompanied his brother with the car that their sister bought online. Since it was bought near our place, their brother will be the one to drive the car. It was a land with sea travel. It almost took them 2-3 days before they reached their hometown. His brother stayed only for 1 week because of work. She planned on extending her vacation and it got extended up to 2 months because of the lockdown and including her mothers birthday.
When she was there, she bought in one of the bakeries and love eating a sandwich which is the crispy sandiwch and she found out how it was done.
When she came back here, she and my niece planned on doing and selling it. I thought it will be taken for granted because it was just the usual sandwich. But they pushed on doing it. They posted it online and there were people who ordered. They delivered it because it is near our area. They were family nd friends and neighbors who ordered.
The prices are cheaper. Their flavors are chocolate, cheese and mayo cheese for P10.00 each. There are also ham & cheese and bacon & cheese and tuna spicy for P15.00 each
The other day, there were also another orders. Some were bulk.
When there are no orders, they put up a table outside our house and sell it so that everyone passing by can noticed it. It worked. There are many kids here in our village and everyone who noticed tried and bought it. Their place is also better because beside them is "grilling store" or ihawan.
Kids love chocolate. But some love cheese mayo. Adults love tuna spicy and ham and cheese.
But for me, I always buy cheese only. I ate it during my shift. It is no longer hot when I ate it hot but it is best with hot coffee. I am also beginning to love spicy tuna because it is spicy. I love spicy.foods.
The Competitor
We have a group chat in our community. We can posts any business in the group chat. They posted their business online so that people will noticed it and they can order online. It will be delivered in their houses too.
One morning, we were surprised when my niece noticed that there was a new business which is almost the same as them. It was the "flying saucer". It is called as such because the sandwich or bun with chosen spread like ham, cheese or chocolate will be put inside a device which will fit the bun and it will be pressed down to close to create a flying saucer-like sandwich. It is easier than the crispy sandwich because you will just put a spread in the bun and put in the device and close it. In a few minutes, it is already hot. They have also same price like my niece's sandwich. But with them, a lot of processes should be done before it can be eaten. But the end product is that it is crispy and delicious.
It alarmed them that they have a competitor now. They opened early and they also put up their business in front of their house which is in front of the basketball court. But the court is still closed.
My niece opened late unlike them. But still, they have many customers. There were days that all their sandwiches were bought but sometimes there were still left
We supported them in their business so I always buy their products. My son loves chocolate and ham and cheese.
My older brothers colleague ordered also and same thing with my younger brothers colleague. It may not be that hot when they received it but it can be placed in a microwave oven to re-heat it.
My Final Say
Putting up a business should be planned wisely You need to have a goood location and the business you will put up should be primary needs of the people like food. Everything should be studied and planned well to become successful.
