English is my favorite subject

I can feel how students missed the school days since its been a year when the pandemic started. Modular and online class is what they have now.

But the effective way to learn is through face to face because this is where they interact with their teachers and classmates well.

They can feel the presence of each other while studying in school.

They missed the conversation during break time.

The laughter inside the classroom.

The teacher asking questions during lecture.

All of those were gone but for the meantime only. Everything will come back to normal in perfect time. We just need to follow the rules to go back to normal. To be Covid free.

ENGLISH

And I remember those days when I was studying. Not to brag but I am a very industrious student. I have a perfect attendance and I was never late. I don't know why but it feels that I will miss a lesson if I make absences. But these was only during elementary days. It all happened when I was in 5th and 6th grade.

Whenever the class started, I'm looking forward to my favorite subject. It's English.

I don't know why but whenever my professor started the lesson, I got excited and very focused. I can easily understand every lessons. If I have home work, I can answer it fast and during examinations, I always pass. Most of the time, I got high scores.

I love everything about the subject. Using words in a sentence, paragraph making, reading in front of the class, learning correct pronunciation and spelling.

I was in 6th grade when my professor gave us an exam and she told us that whoever got the highest score will be the leader in Spelling. Fortunately, I became the leader which means that by every Friday, I will be leading the class by giving quizzes to my classmates about spelling depending on my style.

Something like I will read the words and they will spell it or I will write a jumbled word and they have to re-arrange it. It's a written exam though. And I enjoyed it.

I also remember when there was a quiz bee contest from school to school. They chose 3 representatives for 3 subjects: English, Mathematics and General Knowledge. Since I was in the star section or the Section 1, I was chosen to be the English representative of the school.

But suddenly, there were change of plans and Science was replaced with English. I was also replaced by my other classmate since he does better in Science. That's fine. They won the first prize in that contest.

Spelling

  • writing or naming the letters of a word.

I joined the spelling bee contest in school. There were many students who joined and surprisingly, most of the words are new.to me.

Here are samples of hard to spell words:

  • Foulard

  • Semaphore

  • Insouciant

  • Soubrette

  • Schappe

  • Smaragdine

  • Esquamulose

The above words were not the words given in the contest. I cannot recall it since.it was elementary days.

I did not reach the final round because I got low score. But it was a nice try. I experienced it atleast.

Declamation

  • a rhetorical exercise or set of speech

This is the part of English that I did not like the most. You need to act.

I was in 5th grade when we have declamation and it was part of our final grading assessment that's why we should all practice.

My professor told us that we should memorize a piece. I cannot recall the title but the line that I can recall was "Alms, Alms, spare me a piece of bread.."

I forgot the story but what I can remember was that my teacher told me that I lack acting skills during practice. That my voice should be louder to be heard by the audience and that I should give more life with my lines. That was my first time to act and I was really nervous every practice. I know that my performance was not good enough. I don't have the confidence.

But during the performance day, my score for the declamation was average. I can't recall the exact grade but as far I can remember, other got high grades but I accepted it because they were better than me. I know that I gave my best, thats okay. It was an experience also.

But if English is my favorite suject, Math is the least.

MATHEMATICS

But when it comes to Mathematics , its a totally different thing to me. The opposite of English. I know others can relate who are also having hard time with Math.

Especially if my professor is terror, its an additional thing for me to lose focus. What If I'd be called during recitation and I can't answer, he might shout at me or embarrassed me with my classmates. I'm trying to be attentive but as the discussion prolongs, everything seems to be confusing. Information overload.

At first it was ok but when sample computations were given, I'm already blocked. Most of the time, I was called by my professor to solve the problem but when I'm in front of the board, I don't know where to start.

Then one of my classmates volunteered and answered it correctly and it seems easy for him when he solve the problem in the board. He was good in Math.

My grades passed but its in the average.

Good thing, I still got a medal as 3rd honorable mention when I was in 5th grade.

They say that when you're good in English, then you are not with Mathematics, vice versa. Maybe it depends to others, but to me, I agree.

Lucky are those who excel in both subjects.

My elementary days was much better than my high school years. I was not in the star section during the 1st and 2nd year, but then we transferred to other school because we moved house. I was in 3rd year when we moved but still not in star section.

But when I was in 4th year, I became in Section 1 but I'm not included in Top 10. My classmates were all great. I always got low score in Math. But still, I got good grade when it comes to English subject.

When I went to college, the course I want to take was "Liberal Arts Major in English" but due to financial problems, I took a 2 year course only which is not related to English. I have no choice but to continue my study.

I took a computer course but when I started working, the companies were not related to the course I took.

I worked in few manufacturing companies and also in malls.

Until I worked in BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) or "call centers" but I'm in the non voice account. Non-voice meaning you are not taking calls. But we do send emails so we construct our own letter. At least, I still used my English skills.

I'm not fluent in English but I can speak and write well.

Now, I apply it very well as a writer in Read.Cash. I am learning everytime I write articles and at the same time by reading others articles. I earn also because of writing. I'm proud of it.

I will continue writing and studying more on how to make interesting topics.
