In Laxmipur, about 40 villages on the banks of the Meghna River have been inundated by abnormal tides. The water level in the river has risen by about 5 feet in the last three days. As a result, more than two lakh people have been trapped in the tidal water of the locality. It is learned that the tide did not recede till 9:30 pm on Wednesday (August 5).
It is learned that half a crore rupees worth of fish has been washed away in several areas of Raipur upazila and 6,000 chickens of a farm in Kamalnagar have drowned. The chicken farm claimed that about 30 lakh rupees has been lost due to this. Extensive crop damage is also expected.
According to sources, every village in the 60-kilometer river area from Raipur to Ramgati via Sadar and Kamalnagar has been inundated. District Sadar Karatirhat, Charramani, Bhuiyan Hat, Charmegha, Raipur Char Ababil, Khaserhat, Charlakshmi, Charbangshi, Charbhairabi, Hajimara, Char Kachia, Jaliyar Char, Kuchiamora, Char Ghashia, Tunur Char, Kamalnagarj, About 40 villages have been flooded. Tidal water has inundated about 4 km of these areas from the river bank.
According to the investigation, about 40 villages in Sadar, Raipur, Ramgati and Kamalnagar upazilas have been inundated with tidal water and flooded an area of ββ4 km from the river bank. As a result, more than two lakh people have been stranded. Due to the abnormal tide, canals, ponds, houses, educational institutions, religious institutions and roads connected to the river are submerged in knee-deep water. There has been waist-deep water somewhere. The people of the Meghna coast have suffered greatly.
Meanwhile, in Raipur Upazila, fish worth around half a crore rupees have been washed away by the tide. At least 3,000 drinking wastes of several villages including Chara Ababil of the upazila have been submerged in waist water. Farmers are worried that the drink will be spoiled.
On the other hand, 6,000 chickens of Taj Poultry Farm in Ward No. 6 of Charlerence Union in Kamalnagar have drowned in tidal waters. The chicken food is spoiled. It is learned that a loss of Tk 30 lakh has been caused.

Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mubarak Hossain said the flood victims have been asked to go to the shelter. Arrangements have been made to give dry food to everyone.
Raipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sabreen Chowdhury said the tide had caused severe damage to crops including several raw, semi-ripe houses and roadside trees. Inspected the damaged area. Work is underway to determine the extent of the damage.
