Microsoft's data center was sunk 117 feet deep in the Scottish Sea in 2018. It has 864 servers and 27.6 petabytes of storage.

The company claimed the test was successful after the data center was lifted from the bottom of the ocean on Monday. Technology site Verge quoted Microsoft as saying in the report that the results of the test show that the plan for an underwater data center is actually a much better move.

The plan to submerge an entire data center from the top to the bottom of the ocean may seem bizarre. However, according to Microsoft's Project Natic ​​team theory, more reliable and energy-efficient data centers can be built through this plan.

There are a number of problems with data centers on land. E.g., oxygen and moisture loss and temperature control. Meanwhile, the problems are relatively less if the water control system controls the temperature vigorously.

The idea behind the data center at the bottom of the sea is that these servers can be easily activated in coastal areas in small or large size. This will allow better local access to cloud-based resources in more regions.

Microsoft claims that the failure rate of underground data centers is one-eighth that of land-based data centers, which is a dramatic improvement.

Microsoft has been working on the idea of ​​a submerged data center for a long time. In 2015, the company sank a data center off the coast of California for several months. The goal of the project was to prove that computer systems are working properly in this environment.
