The social media giant has renamed the augmented reality / virtual reality team 'Facebook Reality Labs' to bring a better experience to the new generation of computing platforms.
Earlier, the research department was named Facebook Reality Labs. Historically this department was known as Oculus Research.
Technology site Verge reports that on Tuesday, Facebook announced that it would host the annual conference 'Facebook Connect' on September 18. Everyone can attend this event for free.
As we work to provide new computing platforms, our research team has helped us build Facebook Reality Labs, a pioneer in the AR, VR sector," said Andrew Bosworth, head of Facebook Reality Labs.
The AR / VR division of Facebook has developed different types of VR hardware like the Oculus headset. The 'Spark AR' technology developed by this department has helped to bring a unique experience to Facebook apps and devices.
In 2014, Facebook acquired Oculus for 200 million. This was the company's first major step in the AR / VR sector.
