Finally, it has ended. I’m talking about my service to my dear country ended on Thursday. So now we’re moving to the next stage of life: the labor (favor) market. “After service what next?” This is a common question asked by corp members to themselves. There are also lots of seminars and programs that go on once the end of one’s service is approaching.

During these seminars corp members are advised on learning skills, preparing their curriculum vitae, going on interviews as well as the dos and donts at interviews. I’ve prepared mine and I’m in search of something good that would as well give me chance to practice my skill and grow in it.

“Work is no disgrace: it is idleness which is a disgrace.” - Hesiod

This has become one of my favorite quotes. I tell people to be proud of their hustle as long as it pays their bills and puts food on their table. Be proud of what you do so long as it doesn't dent your image as a person. Someone who is idle and has nothing to do commits vices and becomes the devil's workshop.

A few days back, there was an argument where I stay between a girl and a guy. During this argument, the lady insulted him and accused him of not having anything doing other than walking around and stealing. Another girl intervened and accused the guy of stealing her laptop. The laptop was stolen ending of last year and she posted a warning on the group chat for anyone who took it to return it. I had no idea that she was still on the laptop issue until two nights ago it came up as a topic for discussion during an impromptu meeting because of the case that took place earlier that day.

She was called that night to prove what she said earlier that day about him stealing her laptop of over 200k and hair of over 50k. She had no proof, all she said was that she went to ask all those spiritualists and they told her that he was the one. He was the same person who followed her to police stations and helped her move around for the missing laptop.

When she was asked to prove what she said and why she said it, she began to talk about how she sees him always galavanting around when everyone has left the compound or even at midnight and odd hours when people are sleeping. She said she has caught him pointing touch into her kitchen one time and when she came out he acted weird. The day her laptop got missing, she left her room open. She met him at the staircase and greeted him, but she complained his reply wasn't clear and he acted strangely. As she got to her room and wanted to use her system she couldn't find it and her mind went him immediately.

I have noticed this guy moving around most times but I haven't noticed any weird or suspicious moves from him. For me, the girl isn't wrong in suspecting him but where she did wrong was outrightly accusing him without any proof. Suspecting that someone did something is different from laying accusations on them. She wouldn't have suspected him if he wasn't seen at odd hours doing anything but moving around the house.

It's okay to move around in a place that you paid for. Probably you do that to have some fresh air or to look around. But the question is why would you leave your floor or space closer to your room to now move about to another floor at such an odd hour when others are sleeping. During the explanations she gave as to why she accused him, she said he pretends to be a banker but yet he goes out every day to bear parlor by 4 or 6 p.m and stays there till midnight 1 or 2 a.m.

I guess it's as a result of him being idle that's why he moves around. If he had something that keeps him busy, I don't think he would be a suspect in such a situation. In conclusion, even if you're not busy or have anything to do, make sure you limit your movement, do not allow anyone to begin to question your presence all the time, or begin to wonder whether you have a job or not. That way, people don't lose respect for you.

God bless you and happy weekend
