The subtle art of expression
We may have best drafted paper and content to talk about but the thing that matters the most is the way we express it in front of audience if it is not effective then it is just information which could bore people and uninterested audience is never the motive of the speech or presentation, we can say that proper delivering of a speech/presentation is more important than what the content of the speech is, there is demand of orators everywhere. For example, in a meeting, you may need to talk about your company, give a speech after receiving an award, or Online lectures or conversations are often required certain type of professionalism to attract the audience. We should keep in mind several things while expressing ourselves formally in front of the audience.
1) Focus on the topic on which you are supposed to speak
When it comes to being a productive speaker, enthusiasm goes a long way. If you are apathetic, the audience can tell. They're not going to care if you don't care, either. Perhaps worse, you might come across yourself as a fake. On the other hand, if you really care about your subject, the audience will adopt it as well. They will see you as being more genuine and reliable. They will listen more carefully to find out why your subject is so important to you. And they are likely to forgive the small mistakes you can make. If as a speaker you are trying to cover so much you may end up boring the audience this is why sticking to the topic is very important.
2) Always support the main point of the topic
When we are expressing the topic, there should be continuous support for the main point of the content and it should be backed up by various examples and related facts. For which the research is also important factor. For example the we are speaking on the topic of “excess to clean water” and we gave a very vague statement like “people don’t have excess to clean water”, this sentence will not make as much effect as if we say with adding some facts like “Worldwide, 780 million people do not have access to an improved water source” this will make more better impression in our way of talking.
3) Tell a Story
By telling a story in between the speaker will be able to make the interaction impressive because everyone likes to hear the story, the story should be related and relevant to the topic the interaction is going on.
4) Don’t stress so much on your mistakes
One of the main causes why many of us are afraid to speak in public is that we are afraid of making the mistakes in front of others and that we will end up embarrassing ourselves. If you make a mistake, most people will understand. And if it's a minor mistake, viewers won't even notice it. So, if by chance you end up making some slight mistake then just ignore it and continue with your views or simply apologise and if the mistake is some bigger one then try to engage the audience with some humour and go with the flow this will even make the impression on audience of handling the situation in better way.
5) Dress professionally and comfortably-
There is not a particular dress to wear during the speaking it will depend upon the audience, the dressing sense will define you and will make the very first impression that is why dressing professionally is important and keeping in mind that the whatever we are wearing should be neat and clean good grooming and hygiene rules are also important
These are just five points to help in better delivering of a speech or expression in front of the audience, but just by reading these one cannot be a better speaker, the self-motivation and confidence always plays a vital role and we must not forget to practice before going on the stage.
