REACTION PAPER: Low carbon economy This is my reaction paper for the YouTube video: Biomass and its Role in the Philippine transition to Low carbon Economy Video link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsJ-W4mznlI This video talk about the future of biomass in the Philippines and how it can change the economy from coal powered to an eco-friendly energy source. The key points of the video focuses on how our country can utilize an abundant source of biomass and the positive impacts of it. The presentation includes data from the past years (international and local data) and how we can use it to modify present technologies or predict the future of energy sources. Graphs and statistics are well presented making it easier to understand the information being discussed. Some technical difficulty that I encountered is the volume of the video (or the maybe my device is the problem), some words are not delivered clearly so I have to play it again; nevertheless I don’t find any problem other than that. The key points of the video were supported by facts and reasonable arguments. The speaker included the challenges and what are the roles of different sectors, especially Chemical Engineers in achieving the wide use of biomass instead of coal. The problems or disadvantages of biomass were included so as how it were addressed. By presenting the potential of different feed stocks, the speaker allowed the viewers or audience to get interested on researching more in order to know how we can utilize these sources more effectively. He also highlighted that the problem about the land intended for food was gradually used for biomass and energy can be solve by focusing on the residual non-food second generation residues. One of the ideas that convinced me how beneficial it is to our economy thus to people, is when the positive ripple effect of using biomass as an energy source was discussed. Through the comparisons of various energy sources, biomass seems to be competitive and possess high potential as the country’s major source of energy. If every single sector responsible for generating this energy will cooperate, it is not impossible for us to be freed from environmental destructive power source and we can develop a low-carbon economy. As whole, the video is informative and enables the audience to get inspired of engaging more about biomass and seek various ways to utilize for the betterment of our economy. Thanks for reading ❤️❤️❤️
Hi I published an article in my original account😁 You could check it out and subscribe😊 I'll try to be active there so this acc may be inactive soon:<
Coal Gasification: Effect on Economy and Environment Energy resources are indeed around us. Over the years, the innovation and development of technology to meet the demand of energy supply never stops and it continue to grow until now. Coal gasification is one of the processes in petroleum processing in fluidized bed industry that produce coal-fired power. In general, coal is abundant and inexpensive. If the current rates of usage and production will stay the same, estimates of reserves indicate that enough coal remains to last more than 200 years. On the other hand, there are various problems associated with the use of coal. The two main concern of coal production is its effect on the environment and its economic viewpoint. While the coal itself is inexpensive, the processes involved in converting it into energy are costly. Considering the high construction and economic costs of gasification, a lot of people and companies opposed to revive an old technology during this modern era. According to an article, The dumb dream of turning coal to gas just don’t die, “A 2017 report from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis, a think-tank showed that the Duke facility and a former coal-to-gas facility in Kemper, Mississippi (which has since been converted to burn natural gas instead of coal) were “economic disasters for consumers and investors alike,” and concluded that coal gasification is an especially poor bet, especially as the costs of renewables decline.” However, since there are countries where coal is abundant, gasification of coal are still widely used. Indonesia for instance, is the world largest coal exporter and they can’t give up the used of coal. In connection, the industry argues that gasification technology has changed dramatically since the early 2000s, claiming it’s cleaner, more efficient, and can include carbon capture and sequestration, commonly referred to as CCS, to limit its climate impact. “Carbon capture utilization and storage has become a key element to make coal competitive with other fossil fuels and renewable energy in terms of environmental impact, the technology has had some recent notable success,” said Ian Reid, with the IEA Clean Coal Centre, an industry-supported organization. Nevertheless, the technology remains both unproven and costly. Another problem is its adverse effects in the environment. Some of the negative effects of coal gasification include: CO2 emission; SO2 – related acidification of ecosystems; Acid rain; Mercury emissions (concentration at higher levels of food chain); Degradation of Vegetation; Loss of wildlife habitats; Damage due to mine collapses; Loss of topsoil leads to infertile wastelands; River water alkalinity and; Degradation of aquatic habitats. If we still wish to utilized coal, the process should be modified and consider an innovative approach. New coal power units should achieve best available efficiency and, if not initially installed, should be CCS-ready to have the potential to reduce the impact of coal use. Even there are arguments that CCS is unproven, it can be a basis for a much more eco friendly and low cost production.
Bioethanol: Energy Source Ethanol is an alcohol that is used for preservatives, disinfectant, and can be a source of renewable energy. It’s also an alcohol that can be found in alcoholic beverages. Ethanol also known as ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH) is a colorless liquid. Some of its characteristics include its ability to decompose (biodegradable), low in toxicity, and causes little environmental pollution if leaked. In connection, bioethanol is widely used for petrol substitute for road transport vehicles. Bioethanol fuel is mainly produced by the sugar fermentation process, although it can also be manufactured by the chemical process of reacting ethylene with steam. The main sources of sugar required to produce ethanol come from fuel or energy crops. These crops are grown specifically for energy use and include corn, maize and wheat crops, waste straw, willow and popular trees, sawdust, reed canary grass, cord grasses, jerusalem artichoke, myscanthus and sorghum plants. There is also ongoing research and development into the use of municipal solid wastes to produce ethanol fuel. When ethanol burns, it produces carbon and water. By blending ethanol with gasoline we can also oxygenate the fuel mixture so it burns more completely and reduces polluting emissions. Ethanol fuel blends are widely sold in the United States. The most common blend is 10% ethanol and 90% petrol (E10). Vehicle engines require no modifications to run on E10 and vehicle warranties are unaffected also. Only flexible fuel vehicles can run on up to 85% ethanol and 15% petrol blends (E85). Ethanol can be produced from biomass by the hydrolysis and sugar fermentation processes. Biomass wastes contain a complex mixture of carbohydrate polymers from the plant cell walls known as cellulose, hemi cellulose and lignin. In order to produce sugars from the biomass, the biomass is pre-treated with acids or enzymes in order to reduce the size of the feedstock and to open up the plant structure. The cellulose and the hemi cellulose portions are broken down (hydrolysed) by enzymes or dilute acids into sucrose sugar that is then fermented into ethanol. The lignin which is also present in the biomass is normally used as a fuel for the ethanol production plants boilers. There are three principle methods of extracting sugars from biomass. These are concentrated acid hydrolysis, dilute acid hydrolysis and enzymatic hydrolysis. Bioethanol has a number of advantages over conventional fuels. It comes from a renewable resource i.e. crops and not from a finite resource and the crops it derives from can grow well in the UK (like cereals, sugar beet and maize). Another benefit over fossil fuels is the greenhouse gas emissions. The road transport network accounts for 22% (www.foodfen.org.uk) of all greenhouse gas emissions and through the use of bioethanol, some of these emissions will be reduced as the fuel crops absorb the CO2 they emit through growing. Also, blending bioethanol with petrol will help extend the life of the UK’s diminishing oil supplies and ensure greater fuel security, avoiding heavy reliance on oil producing nations. By encouraging bioethanol’s use, the rural economy would also receive a boost from growing the necessary crops. Bioethanol is also biodegradable and far less toxic that fossil fuels. In addition, by using bioethanol in older engines can help reduce the amount of carbon monoxide produced by the vehicle thus improving air quality. Another advantage of bioethanol is the ease with which it can be easily integrated into the existing road transport fuel system. In quantities up to 5%, bioethanol can be blended with conventional fuel without the need of engine modifications. Bioethanol is produced using familiar methods, such as fermentation, and it can be distributed using the same petrol forecourts and transportation systems as before. However, ethanol has a lower energy density than that of gasoline, meaning more ethanol - in terms of volume and mass - needs to be combusted to produce the same amount of energy. In fact, energy per unit volume of ethanol is 34% lower than that of gasoline,[5] therefore 1.5 gallons of ethanol contains approximately the same amount of energy as one gallon of gasoline does. An additional advantage of ethanol is that it has a higher octane rating than gasoline, allowing engine designs with higher compression ratios, meaning ethanol driven engines can be designed to have higher thermal efficiency. Although the energy contained per gallon of ethanol is less than gasoline, as the energy within the fuels is converted to the mechanical movements of the vehicle, the ethanol engine will waste less energy as compared to that of gasoline. An ethanol-only engine can be designed for better theoretical power output and higher thermal efficiency, meaning an ethanol powered car will have better performance and waste less energy. Also, if bioethanol is used, the carbon dioxide released when ethanol is burned is balanced by the carbon dioxide captured when the crops are grown to make ethanol. This differs from petroleum, which is made from plants that grew millions of years ago. On a life cycle analysis basis, corn-based bioethanol production and use reduces greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) by up to 52% compared to gasoline production and use. Bioethanol use could reduce GHGs by as much as 86%. The world never stops advancing by means of upgrading various machineries and innovating what we currently use today. In connection, we have to use this advancement in creating something that will not just benefit humans but also the world that we live in.
Circling Thoughts Questions are circling inside my head. Memories, people, and places vividly flashbacks in randomness. I want to share and write something informative but my mind won't let me. If ever I am writing without direction anymore I hope these hands of mine will be able to find the right letters to write in order to produce right words, sentences, idea. I'll jut keep on writing and writing until I finish sharing my thoughts. I am currently multitasking. While I write this, I am viewing ads to earn some bitcoin. I just explored this website so I haven't cash out yet. There are a lot of earning sites out there some are legit some are not, and there are also earning site that are legit but you'll spend a lot of time in order to earn. I also tried various earning games but almost all of it is scam. Two of the games that I still play right now are Gogoal app and Clipclaps. I already cashed out 10$ but it's still on queue, it is not yet transfered on my paypal account. On the other hand, ClipClaps is quite slow to achieve the allowed minimum withdrawal. Points needed are high so I haven't cash out there too. I'm still playing and watching videos there although I'm not sure if it's legit or not. Based on my experience, Read.cash and noise.cash are the most legit website I ever encountered. I already transfered BCH in my wallet, converted it to peso, withdraw it in atm, then buy necessary things and something that I want. I hope to find other legit earning suite as well without spending so much time for it. I also plan to learn investing and holding cryptos like what I see other users are doing. A lot of money was spent for my medication so I want to earn and return my mom's money. After all, I'm the one who didn't take care of myself that's why I experienced some health issues. I'm just too guilty to see that what my mom worked for, for days and nights are all just wasted because of me. All her salary from the past month was used for my laboratory tests. Even though she's not complaining I know that she's quite frustrated because she also have to pay a lot of bills. Online class is starting and I know this will get tougher than the previous semester. Almost all our subjects are major plus we have terror and strict professors, some are caring tho. I want to manage my time effectively so I can follow my everyday schedule. I know I will not be able to follow it smoothly because I need a lot of time in order to learn a certain lesson because I'm not a fast learner and I process information slowly especially when it come to calculations. Projects, exams, machine problems, paper works will be all over my mind again. With all these things I need to keep my position. First, as a Christian, even I am loaded with much schoolworks I shouldn't let this hinder myself to serve the Lord. I need to give my time and prioritize Godly works than worldly works. Second is as a daughter. The responsibility as a child must also be considered. Household chores and other things that a daughter should do is needed to be fulfilled. Then, as a student, it's my responsibility to study and understand each lesson for future use. Lastly, as a person, we should give time to other people, activities, and other things but never forget to give time for ourselves. Give yourself care, love, and never forget to rest. Take care of your health because it's easier to be prevent diseases than to cure it. If ever you're in difficult circumstances, I hope you will always remember that someone is there for you. Watching and guiding you. You'll get help that you need if you seek it. Never give up on something that you really want to do, if you love something and it's your passion never give up on it if ever because some people do not believe in your capabilities. People have diverse opinion towards things that's why it's not surprising when someone belittle you or oppose what you want to believe. What important is you're not someone who causes pain to others. Nurture your interests and don't stop honing your skills. You can share it with others and this can be an inspiration to them as well. My head is filled with unending thoughts, and it'll be a novel if I share all of it here. Maybe someday, if my mind cooperates with my fingers as well as to what my heart wants to convey, I will do my best to inspire and influence people in the best way possible. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a great day❤
If If ever the sun already sets, I will walk through the darkness, Alone, but strongly I will step carefully, Until I safely come to you. If ever you're already asleep, I'll see to it that you're comfortable. I'll be beside you all the time, And guard you if nightmare comes. If ever in your sleep you won't leave, I'll pray to God to take you tomorrow, If ever tomorrow comes, I'll ask again not to take you today. I'll ask Him again and again. If ever you can't handle the pain, If ever, if ever you really need to rest, Please hear me first, then I'll let you finish this life full of quest. A cry of someone who will lost a person that's important to her. If ever you want to show someone how much you love them, don't do it tomorrow, do it today and everyday❤ Thanks for reading❤ I hope you have a good day😊
I think I should say this People never stop talking, Felt like I'm always drowning. How can I live up their standards? Every move, they're on guard. This is my passion, Act, dance, sing, and be an inspiration. Why do people pick on me, Is it wrong to be free? From looks to actions, It's limited and need caution, It's like my whole life is scripted, I can't stay true to myself so I won't be hated. It's also my rights, To stand up and fight. I'm not a caged animal, Nor a lifeless human. thank you for reading Most famous artist have to maintain their image but sometimes it became too much that they can't live like their true self because people tend to judge and bash people a lot.
Win How am I supposed to know? If I have trophy displayed? If the crowd went crazy shouting my name? Or if children dream to be me? I wanted to know, I hope the records will show, If I'm a winner in this endless game, Or a loser that just go on without shame. This game called life, Is like survival of the strongest, Not just physically, but with all the aspects, Win or lose there's an aftereffect. Thank you for reading😊 Don't quit on this game, whenever we lose, never forget to play again😁
WonderFalls Good day everyone❤ Hope you'll enjoy this article🤗 There are various wonders of the world that will amaze us. Some are not known to public while some are famous that tourists and numerous people visit it. Every place possessed unique beauty which makes them different from each other. For those who are adventurous, mountain climbing and hiking are just some activities that they’re fond of. Some people prefer beaches and islands. Whatever the case, we can’t deny the fact that nature never fails to amaze us and help us win against all the glitches of the world. I’ll share some astonishing sights that are found in different part of our planet earth. **Angel Falls** This is said to be the highest falls in the world. Its height measures 19 times higher than Niagara Falls. Angel Falls is located in Venezuela and currently one of the most beautiful attractions in the country. It is named after Jimmy Angel, an American pilot who landed on top of Auyantepui in 1937 while he and his wife together with 2 of their friends are searching for gold. As Angel’s four-seater plane got stuck on top of the mountain, they had to trek for 11 days. This falls became an inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1912 novel “The Lost World”. After a century, millions of tourists visit the area annually. **Fire Falls** Another magnificent falls that we can talk about is the Fire Falls. It is named Yosemite Horsetail Fall located in California, the name “Fire Fall” was given to it because of the illusion it creates when the sun is setting and it causes light to hit the waterfall at just the right angle- which will appear as if there’s a lava or fire flowing at the top of the mountain. This phenomenon can only be seen during a short period of time on February. A lot of visitors come every night to witness this event. It varies from year to year depending on how much water is flowing. **Underwater Falls in Mauritius** Located in the south-west of the island off the coast of Le Morne village, a wonderful illusion of underwater falls can be found while looking from above. It is important to know that it is only an optical illusion and not a real underwater waterfall. The underwater waterfall of Mauritius is not a risky place; all sorts of marine activities can be done there. Some tour operators even propose visits to underwater caves in that region. This is a short clip of those waterfalls so you'll be able to appreciate it more🤗 https://h5.cc.lerjin.com/video_share/?sourceId=8a8454f1761854cf017618b1df390510 Those three are just few of amazing places on earth. My personal favorite and wish to visit on the future is the Fire Falls. I love how the interaction between water and sun creates a wonderful sight. Thank you so much for reading this article hope you liked it🤗
Colour I feel blue without you. Gloomy like gray clouds, do you have a clue? Red can be a colour of love, Or golden yellow, or can be mauve. Let's stare above the black sky, And lay down the green green grass. We can sleep inside your white car, If we can't see a single star. Believe me I'll come to you, Even we're worlds apart, I'll come wearing the same old teal hoodie, Bringing bunch of foodies. Your the type who has a lot of hues, Don't worry, I love coloring books, To color my life, I have plenty to use, These colors all represent you.
Blessing Good day everyone❤ A lot of struggles that we face everyday makes us want to give up. Everything seems painful and sometimes we thought we can't handle it anymore. We don't have a choice but to manage it and find solutions to our problems. We have different ways to solve it, be it alone or with the help of other people. I am facing a great challenge nowadays regarding my health and my mom is struggling more. I don't want her to be sad and stressed but then sometimes we can't avoid it. I know I'm not alone and I trust God that whatever the situation will be, He'll always be there and He's teaching me something through this situation. To counter our problems, we can look at brighter side of life and focus on all blessings that we received. I'll share one of the greatest blessings that we received recently. Last January 10, 2021 my closest cousin and best bud gave birth to a healthy baby boy. He was so big that my cousin have to undergo a caesarian operation. Of course everyone's nervous, but still thankful that both the mother and child is safe. Ahhh look at those chubby cheeks(*^▽^*) I wish this child will grow full of love and strong enough to face all the challenges he will encounter in life. What's your blessing today? I know you have even just one😊
