An incident in the childhood of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Mother, widow, grandfather, old (orphan) child can be expected to get something in return? Hesitantly thinking about all this, no one in the group expressed interest in taking him.
Meanwhile, all the other women in the group who came with me collected the children one by one. Only I (Halimah) remained. It was not possible for me to collect any children.
The closer I got back, the more difficult and burdened my mind became. Finally I told my husband that all my companions were returning with their children for breastfeeding and I had to go back empty-handed, as if I could not accept anything. Rather than that, I take that orphan boy (which Allah does).
The husband said, "All right, no problem, you go and get him." It may be that God has blessed us in this. In such a situation and in the context of the mind-set, I (Halimah) took to breastfeed the baby Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Then Halimah said, 'When I returned to my dormitory with the baby Muhammad (peace be upon him) and placed him in my lap, he combined his breasts with my breasts and drank the milk with full satisfaction. His half-brother, my unborn child, also drank milk with full satisfaction. Then they both fell asleep. We have never seen him sleep like this before.
On the other hand, my husband went to milk the camel and saw that it was full of milk. She sucked so much milk that we both drank it to our heart's content and spent the night in great comfort. When the morning came, after spending the night with full satisfaction, my husband said, 'Halimah! By God, you have got a very lucky child. ' I replied, "By Allah, I feel the same way when I see the situation."
Halimah added that the group then left Makkah for their respective homes. Carrying the baby Muhammad (peace be upon him) on my chest, I rode on my weak and feeble female donkey and started the journey with them. But by God, that weak donkey of mine left everyone behind and started moving fast in front of everyone. No other donkey could go with him.
