A Look At California

Driving down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) has many great places to stop and see nature and the many animals that inhabit these landscapes. Below are a few pictures from my recent trip down the coast.

Going to the other side of California, towards the Sierra Nevada's Mountain Range, you will find the famous Yosemite National Park. Here are a few pictures of Half Dome and one of the Waterfalls in the Valley.

Half Dome: Was formed from molten lava under the surface of the earth that cooled over 65 million years ago. The pressure on this rock formation pushed it upward towards the surface where millions of years of erosion helped to chip away at it.

In fact, you should check out the documentary, Free Solo. It is about climber Alex Honnold who has climbed the Half Dome solo and free hand. He was also the first person to complete a free solo climb of El Capitan. Amazing documentary.

So here's a fact about California most do not know, even the ones who live in the state. California has a state flag that has a California Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctic califoricus) on it.

It is a subspecies of the Grizzly Bear. Which sadly became extinct by 1924. Yes, you read that correctly. California has a state flag with an extinct bear on it that was ripped out by a few factors, but humans were one of them.

On another note, they are thinking of trying to bring Grizzly back to California. This would be great for the overall ecosystem and a step in the right direction on respect for nature and mankind.

Hope you enjoyed and happy travels!
