Definataion of Air Pollutants
The poisonous and harmful substances contaminated or pollute air are called air pollutants.
Sources
Carbon monoxide, Sulphur dioxide,Oxides of nitrogen, Chlorofluorocarbon e.t.c are the main air pollutants.
Poisonous gases produced during the decay of dead organisms, dust particles, compounds of lead also pollute the our air.
Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide is produced by the incomplete combustion of coal and other fuels.Smoke release from our bike, cars, buses and industries also the source of carbon monoxide.
Sulphur Dioxide
Sulphur dioxide is produced by burning of coal or oil in factories.Smoke released during the production of electricity in the thermal power station is also the source of Sulphur dioxide
Oxides of Nitrogen & Chlorofluorocarbon
Oxides of nitrogen are produced by burning of coal and oil at high temperature in factories and our motor vehicle. Chlorofluorocarbon are the compound which contains Chlorine,Flourine and carbon atoms. CFCs are used in aerosol sprays, refrigerator and air conditioning system. On leakages from these appliances CFCs enter the air and contaminated our air and damages the ozone layer.
