Let me brief about this dance. It divides into two distinct forms. One of the form in the dance is to focus on abstract hand gestures and movements, whereas in the other form the dancer has to employ complex hand signals and body language to depict emotional expressions. The gestures made by the dancer are real impressive. In a nutshell, the expressions and gestures by the dancers are unimaginable. Here the music and instruments are played live on the stage. The costumes are just excellent.
Now-a-days dancers have advanced to make further research on this subject. Few popular dancers have researched on this subject and came out with a new title dance therapy. Meaning - with the help of this dance your mind and soul will be at peace. Furthermore you become physically and mentally strong.
There is no age limit for learning this art. People from very young age to the older generation choose to learn & perform this art with interest. As the first step they choose a Guru (the Dance Teacher)to train them. The student then gives Dakshina ,( meaning a small amount of money along with a Betel leaf ) to the Guru as a token of respect. He/she places it in the feet of their master to get his blessings. Then the lesson for dance begins probably in the early hours. There are so many stages to complete until you become a full fledged dancer.
It is one of the oldest forms of Indian classical traditional dance, originated from Tamil Nadu, South India. It is based on non religious ideas and fusion themes.
