Sirajuddaula acquired the power of Nawab of Bengal in 1757 at the age of 23 from his grandfather Nawab Alivardi Khan. He was defeated at the battle of Palashi on 23 June 1757 due to the betrayal of his general Mir Jafar. The East India Company under Robert Clive took over the rule of Bengal.
