their mouth contains more nerve endings than any other part of their body. When babies grasp an object and want to learn more about it, they put the object into their mouth.
Come to think of it, babies are able to recognize their feeding bottle or their mothers breast because they already learnt that liquid from these two are satisfactory to them.
