Dear reader, do you believe a word? Everything beautiful around us is at your feet. No matter where you are, on your right and left, even on the bottom of the sea, the source of eye-catching, mind-blowing beauty is always trampled underfoot. Have you ever thought like this?

International Soil Year is underway. The theme for September is soil protection. Our environment is all about water, land, air. No matter where we live, water or land, the soil does not leave us behind. Soil is protecting us unselfishly, both directly and indirectly.

Healthy soil gives birth to healthy plants. From the smallest tree, the draft willow, to the giant redwood, all plants grow with nutrients from the soil. The soil of one country is different in terms of environment and geo-nature. First of all, let's talk about the forest. Our fascination with greenery is but the contribution of the soil. On the other hand, in the forest destroyed by fire, life is revived only because of the soil. Unfortunately, it is true that indiscriminate deforestation has been going on in Bangladesh for the last 30 years. Where the soil is ready with all its materials to sustain our lives, we ourselves are pushing the existence of the next generation to the brink of destruction for our own temporary comfort.

Then we can talk about grassland. The grassland is rich in humus. In these areas, when a plant dies in winter, its decomposing residue acts as a soil cover during snowfall and later mixes with the soil to fertilize the soil and naturally produce organic matter. From where a lot of grain is produced. We don't have much grassland in our country, but it is very common in the United States.

Although there is no grassland, wetlands are one of the characteristics of the soil of Bangladesh. Wetlands are formed in low-lying areas or in relatively low-lying areas where rainwater may accumulate. With fish, frogs and a combination of extraordinary biodiversity. Wetlands act like sponges to retain water. Therefore, excess water cannot overflow during floods in rivers or streams. Ratargul, Bichnakandi, Tanguar Haor wetlands of our country are a unique example.

After the wetland, let's talk about the desert. Where very few plants grow due to insufficient rainfall. On the other hand, when the water dries up due to the intensity of the sun, the essential minerals present in the soil become insufficient, making it difficult for the plants to survive. But one thing should not be forgotten, the soil is the habitat of many microorganisms. They are able to survive the high temperatures of the desert. Various microorganisms, including actinomycetes (about 50% of desert organisms), mucor, penicillin, nostock, and aspergillus, help to survive.

It's about nature. Urban areas or why excluded? There are readers, the soil is not at all inseparable from the city. As we know, soil purifies water. No matter what type of water we drink, it is purified on the ground before it is supplied to our homes.

So it can be said that wherever you are, the soil holds us, protects us and keeps us safe. How many of us think that? Now is the time to protect this priceless gem.
