Little is known about Aristotle's biography. Proxenus raised him as a guardian after the death of his father, Nicomacheus, in his infancy. At the age of 16 or 18 he joined Plato's Academy in Athens and remained there until he was 36 years old. His writings cover physics, biology, zoology, metaphysics, logic, ethics, aesthetics, poetry, theater, music, psychology, linguistics, economics, politics, and government, all of which form the first intellectual system of Western philosophy. Shortly after Plato's death, Aristotle left Athens and, at the request of Philip II of Macedon, began teaching Alexander the Great from 343 BC. Aristotle benefited greatly from teaching Alexander. He established a library at Lyceum and wrote many books on the papyrus scroll.

Birth control

Aristotle was born in 364 BC in a Greek colony called Stagiras on the coast of Thrace. His father, Nicomacus, was a home physician in the court of King Amintas of Macedonia. This medical business was the only way for their family to earn a living. Inspired by his father, he tried to become a doctor. [1] Having been associated with the Macedonian court since the beginning of his life greatly influenced his future.

Biography

His father died in infancy, and at the age of 18 his guardian Proxenas sent him to Athens to acquire knowledge. Athens was then considered the center of knowledge in the world. There he studied at Plato's Academy directly under Plato for about twenty years. Once while at Plato and his academy, he began lecturing on linguistics himself. After Plato's death in 348 BC, Aristotle was qualified to be the head of the academy. But because of the distance between Plato's philosophy and Aristotle's own philosophy, Plato's relative Spusippus was chosen as the head of the academy. Aristotle then went there at the invitation of Hermias, the ruler of Attarnias. He lived there for three years and married Pythias, the king's sister. In later life he married another woman, Harpilis, and they had a son, Nicomacas. After staying there for three years, Attorneyus captured the Persian emperor and Aristotle moved to Mytilene. For the next five years, Aristotle taught Alexander, the 13-year-old son of King Philip of Macedonia (who later conquered the world). Both King Philip and Alexander had the utmost respect for Aristotle.

After Philip's death, Alexander took over the kingdom and Aristotle returned to Athens. This was his first visit to Athens after Plato's death. Arriving in Athens, he saw the widespread spread of Platonism in Plato's academy, and now Platonism's main philosophy in Athens. As a result, he established his own school in an area called Lyceum. He spent the next thirteen years preaching and teaching. He lectured during the day for his close students and at night for the general knowledge-hungry people of Athens. Alexander's untimely death in 323 BC overthrew the former Macedonian government in Athens. Aristotle was then accused of blasphemy. Quickly move to Uboa Calcis to escape punishment. He feared that his condition might be similar to that of Plato's teacher Socrates. In his first year at Calcium, he contracted a stomach ailment and died in 322 BC.
