2020 was a busy year for technology with the introduction of everything from smartphones to autonomous vehicles, yet the trends in technology remain consistent with previous years and this means that we can expect major changes in 2021. While most consumer technology brands have their sights set on making one-day products or services available within the next 12 months, it's important not to forget about these “firsts” and what they mean for the world. There are some very interesting developments in smart home devices, which will be the driving force behind many innovation trends in the coming years. Below are some of the best new smartphones and devices that are sure to become household names in the upcoming year.Samsung Galaxy S21 (or Galaxy S21)

Samsung is planning to make its first smartphone bigger than ever before using a 120Hz display, while also launching a more powerful chipset than last year’s Galaxy S20, according to reports. The company has made much of its flagship Galaxy Note series in recent years as well as bringing up the brand with different models for various price points. Many fans are curious to see how Samsung plans to do so, but there is no guarantee that they will succeed. And that could lead them to believe that there is absolutely nothing stopping the device being released this year, however they may turn out to be right, and that Samsung has chosen to wait until 2022 for this one. Expectations are high for this phone based on the rumours out there regarding the rumored screen size, at least early 2021.Apple iPhone 18 Mini (or Apple iPhone 13 Mini)

In today’s market, when the competition between companies is even greater, having an equally powerful product that does it all seems like a good thing to do. You know that there is plenty of room for improvement in every aspect of your favourite mobile device, but if you don’t bring something new into your existing line, your competitors will eventually catch up on such a large part of your business that it will be hard to maintain your competitive advantage over time. With the upcoming arrival of multiple 5G smartphones due for launch towards the end of 2021 and beyond, I expect people to start thinking about getting the latest mini smartphones. This is the perfect way to give consumers the power of two devices, or at least four devices without huge compromises in performance or features, whilst delivering great value for money. We will all see the result of that with this iPhone 15 and hopefully some other iPhone upgrades soon thereafter. It might take a bit longer to realize that Apple isn’t trying to dominate the market after all, but it doesn’t hurt anyway!Google Pixel 4a and Pixel 4B (or Google Pixel 2a / Pixel 3b and Pixel 4b)

These phones look exactly like last year, but Motorola wants to really differentiate themselves by offering both handsets, making smartphones look better. So far, the only flagship in the family is the Pixel 4 and that is an extremely impressive feat, especially considering Motorola is known for selling sub par devices. However I am expecting this device to sell very well too, mainly because it would be the first handset in decades and probably would deliver value for money in terms of features. Like this model? Well you could add extra storage and other things to it which then increases the cost. Also it comes with Android 11 and with three years warranty, if that sounds enticing enough to you, go ahead! If we were to compare it against any other Moto G7 or Google Pixel, Google’s budget offering was always going to outsell Motorola’s and they seem to have missed the mark here in my opinion.
