Freedom War in Ukraine
Loss of Crimea
In 2014, unmarked soldiers appeared on the territory of Crimea. Nobody understood what was happening. And Russian President Vladimir Putin did not comment on this situation for a long time. But every day it became clearer that these were Russian troops.
Europe and the US did not react to this for a long time. But a month later everything became clear. Then there was a referendum. People were able to vote for the future fate of the peninsula. And most of the people voted for joining Russia. Vladimir Putin called it a popular vote. And Russia recognized Crimea as part of the Russian Federation. However, the world took this decision ambiguously. Europe imposed sanctions and did not recognize Crimea as part of Russia.
Vladimir Putin took advantage of the moment and took Crimea at the moment when Maidan was taking place in Ukraine. The Ukrainians wanted to join the European Union, but the Russian Federation did not like it.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has left Ukraine. The country was left without a president. And at this moment, the neighboring state of the Russian Federation took advantage of a weak Ukraine.
Eastern part of Ukraine
Against the backdrop of the Maidan in Kyiv, the eastern part of Ukraine has ambiguously adopted the policy of the West. Not everyone wanted to join the European Union. Donetsk and Luhansk began to perform with the flags of the Russian Federation.
However, other people also took advantage of it. These were the special services of the Russian Federation. They started supporting the people and it eventually turned into a war. A militia was formed from residents of Ukrainian cities in eastern Ukraine and partly from Russian soldiers.
Vladimir Putin wanted to take the eastern part of Ukraine without firing a shot. However, the scenario of the Crimea did not work out.
President of Belarus Lukashenko invited Ukraine and Russia to sit down at the negotiating table. The Minsk agreements were signed. However, it soon became clear that it was impossible to fulfill them.
Several ceasefire agreements were also concluded. But they all didn't work.
Ukraine is not Russia
Putin has always considered Ukraine to be part of Russia. He also said that Ukrainians and Russians are one people. We cannot verify whether Putin really thinks so. Perhaps this is a lie, and Putin hides his goals under this slogan.
Vladimir Putin called the collapse of the Soviet Union the biggest mistake of the 20th century. Perhaps he would like to go down in history as the man who took the lands back.
However, the Russian Federation grossly violated international law. And when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Europe responded with sanctions. This significantly weakened the Russian economy.
Ukraine is a free democratic country. And when a man from the people, Vladimir Zelensky, came to power, Putin did not take him seriously. He said that Zelensky is a great actor, but not a politician.
In fact, President Putin is a dictator. And he did not like the fact that there is democracy in Ukraine. He is afraid that the Maidan may affect Russia. And he will lose power. A split in Russia is also possible.
Ukraine is a European country. Ukrainians do not like dictatorship. But Vladimir Putin does not understand this. He does not want to see Ukraine as part of the European Union. Because it will be a tragedy for the Russian Federation.
All this time, Russian television has been showing its citizens how bad life is in Ukraine. This was done so that Russia did not want to repeat the fate of the Maidan. Russia also put pressure on Ukraine by military means.
The war in Ukraine has undermined the security of the whole world. This could lead to a third world war.
