Iran, Russia and China Targeting U.S. Elections

An Investigation by Microsoft has found that Russian, Chinese and Iranian hackers have stepped their effort to disrupt the 2020 us-elections.

Microsoft reported that it was seeing increasing cyber attacks originating in Russia china and Iran targeting the presidential campaigns of both Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden.

The tech giants said that the attacks were targeted against political groups on both competing camps in the US presidential election. The cyberattacks were aimed at advocacy groups academics and leaders in their international affair community.

According to a blog post, Tom Burt Microsoft corporate vice president of customer security but in the post said that it has been made clear to him that foreign activity groups have stepped up their efforts targeting the 2020 elections as it has been anticipated by his crew and it is consistent with what the US government and others in the intelligence community have been reporting.

The blog post went on to reveal details on the many hacker groups that are known to have launched these attacks among them was the strontium group or the fancy bear as it is known in Russia. The group has attacked more than 200 organisations affiliated to the US  elections.

Microsoft also said that the china-based Zirconium group attacked -high profile individuals associated with the election including people associated with the Joe Biden for president campaign and prominent leaders in the international affairs community.

The tech giant said that the Iran-based group dubbed phosphorus has been targeting personal account of people with the Trump campaign. Tom Burt said that the majority of these attacks were detected and stopped by security tools built-in Microsoft products.

However, China has denied any involvement in the allegations around hacking the US elections and stated that Microsoft shouldn't make such baseless accusations and should not drag china into this.
