A Russian military unit was in East Ukraine but their tanks were destroyed by a Javelin missile. The crew was definitely killed but the missile had been launched from the western part of Ukraine. The missile struck a Russian tank column killing the crews but the missile itself continued on it's trajectory and hit a platform about 75m away from the tank firing its anti-tank missile. It then fell to the floor landing on top of the 'tank'. It was then discovered that the Russian tank was a T-72B with the Excalibur guided missile in its shoulder-mounted launcher. It was suggested that the Javelin would've killed more people had it landed in the middle of the column. (Surprisingly this is the best recorded performance of a javelin)

An investigation was going on as to how a US army missile launcher could've been brought in to the conflict. However, the US officials stated that it was impossible for the missile to be launched from Ukrainian territory. Then the videos came, the videos of the Javelin on the floor and fragments recovered from the Javelins explosion. The French team confirmed it was definitely a Javelin.

This makes the missile users guilty of a war crime based on the Hague Convention, but the Hague Convention cannot be applied to the conflict. Instead the men who planned and ordered the Javelin to be used should be charged.

The US army missile was fired from Zhytomyr. The distance from L'viv is about 60 miles, which is a bit too far for a Javelin to travel. So a special unit was formed to investigate this occurrence. In the US army there was no evidence of technology that could fire a missile from over 60 miles away, but this new special unit worked on developing a new type of US army missile guided from over 60miles away. If the Javelin launched from Zhytomyr then a normal missile cannot travel that far.

This unit was a small group of specially chosen individuals who had to remain active in the army, their orders were to keep the secret hidden.
