Since it is a Sunday, dare I make a foray into religion here? Sure---one time. And I realize I view things a bit differently than others, and I am not preaching, just saying... So me and God was sittin' 'round talking the other day (okay, He wasn't sittin' so much as just floatin' there in mid air) and I said to Him, I said "Hey, Big Guy...what is it with all these here folks trumpeting that their religion is THE religion and all other religions are false?" And Big Guy...well, He kinda leaned back in the air like, and scratched His chin and looked kinda thoughtful for a moment...and then He said "Well Mikey, to tell you the Truth...I don't know." Gots to say I was just a bit flabbergasted. I said "Now wait a minute...I thought You knew everything!" An' ol' God, He fixed me with this sort of amused look, and He said "Mikey, we've been through this already. I gave the people freedom of choice...Free Will...it's in the doctrine, remember? And since they have that Free Will, that means they can choose anything they want, and I have no control over what they will do." And I said back to Him, I said "But wait, I thought You knew it all, that it was all pre-ordained, and so on and such forth." And the Big Guy, He kinda chuckled a bit and said "Yeah, they all seem to think that...but what it REALLY is, I know how it all will END...but all those little details in between...well, I kinda left them all up to you and your kind." And I was like "Damn!" And then I quickly apologized, but God, He understands me and knows I didn't mean any offense, so He quickly forgave me. After that small faux pas, I sat back and thought for a spell. Ol' God and I, We have these huge comfortable silences that pass between Us occasionally when We are deep in thought. And then I asked "But what about all this Religion stuff? Why does each of these different sectors claim that THEIR Way is the Right Way and all others are false?" And Big Guy looked me dead in the eye and told me "Religion has been the bane of humankind throughout all existence. I wanted people to listen to ME, and to choose MY ways...but instead, they created all these different Churches, and started trying to apply their own definitions to what My Will is...it's stupid, but I can't seem to convince them that RELIGION is not the Key, but the love of ME is the Key. My will can be summed up simply as 'Do no harm to others, help them when you can, and love everyone as yourself." And you know something?
