Northern Migration of the Rose-breasted Grosbeak Regular as clockwork, the last week of April sees the yearly northern migration of the grosbeak passing through southern Illinois. The past two years they had made their first appearance on the 26th of April, so I'd started keeping an eye out for them since about the 24th. Up until today, I had not yet seen any, when these two males (only males are black/white/red, females are brown/white) showed up at the same time this afternoon (April 28th Central Zone USA). One of my favorite Spring moments...right up there with hearing my first chorus of frogs for the year in late February/early March. Richland County Illinois USA #Nature
