A solid strategy, goals, and tactics all make up the foundation of any successful B2B company. Yet as your business continues to grow and evolve, you may realize that you need to incorporate different tools into your daily operations—one of which is search engine optimization (SEO). If you have a clear understanding of how SEO works and why it’s so important to your company, then you should definitely be adding this tool to your strategy. But if you don’t know where to start, this guide on 8 important SEO tips for B2B company strategies will help get you started on the right foot!

1) Ensure your website is mobile-friendly

More than 60% of users will abandon a mobile site that takes more than 3 seconds to load, so make sure you’re using a website builder that renders quickly on all devices. A third-party content management system (CMS) like WordPress is another option—it can easily be modified to display well on any device. Make sure your responsive website is able to show off your company’s unique value proposition; don’t just replicate your website for every platform, either. Make sure you optimize your pages for search engines: Search engine optimization encompasses everything from keyword selection and placement (i.e., title tags and meta descriptions) to making sure that each page links out to an important resource or piece of content elsewhere on your site.

2) Use Keywords in Titles and Meta Descriptions

Write your titles and meta descriptions with your audience’s keywords in mind. Be aware of what terms people are actually using to find you on search engines and write for them. Some keyword research tools include Google Keyword Planner, BrightEdge, Moz Open Site Explorer, and Market Samurai.

3) Add Alt Tags to Images on your Website

It’s easy to forget to add alt tags, especially if you have a large number of images on your website. This is especially important for product images and pictures of people. Using descriptive alt tags with your product images will allow Google and other search engines to better understand what each image is about, which allows them to serve up relevant content in search results when someone searches for an image. Adding these descriptive alt tags will also help people that use screen readers better understand what each image is about and navigate more easily through your website.

4) Create CTAs that convert potential leads into clients

CTAs are essential to any marketing strategy because they tell people what you want them to do next. If you’re not able to direct your target audience through a variety of touchpoints, it’s very likely they won’t do what you want them to do. CTAs are effective when they're concise and when they provide enough context for visitors. With effective CTAs in place, your lead generation campaign can be well on its way to success. You should also keep in mind that a great CTA is just one part of an overall effective marketing strategy. Don't limit yourself solely by its utility—also consider how it will blend with other forms of content and engagement channels you're using.

5) Include Your Business Address in Local Listings

You’re a business; you want your customers to find you. It doesn’t make sense to leave out your business address from local listings, especially when so many of us use digital devices for everything from shopping to finding directions. Be sure that all of your relevant listings—like Google and Bing—include accurate and up-to-date contact information, including your phone number and street address (which will help with local search optimization). And don’t forget about social media; Facebook even lets you add in a physical address for free. Consider adding it right below your profile picture—that way, people can see where you are without having to dig around on maps or call up Google Maps just to get directions.

6) Engage with your customers online

Online customer engagement is incredibly important in terms of nurturing your relationship with current customers, finding potential leads, and driving future sales. The key is creating an environment where your prospects have an interest in what you have to say and are willing to come back. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes – especially on social media. Those platforms are perfect for testing out different ideas until you find something that works for you. From there, it’s all about communicating regularly and frequently, so that when it comes time for your customers or leads to make a purchase decision, they already know who you are and trust that your business can help them get what they need.

7) Brand yourself as an Expert Online

If you want your business to take off, you’re going to need brand recognition. How are potential customers going to find out about your company? A well-known name is always beneficial, but if no one knows who you are, what value can you offer them? The Internet has become a place where businesses of all sizes can go toe-to-toe with larger competitors—and they can do it at an extremely low cost. Use social media channels and powerful digital marketing strategies like search engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns to establish yourself as an authority in your industry and reach people wherever they might be looking for local products or services like yours.

8) Optimize All of your Digital Assets

The world of digital marketing continues to expand, which means businesses have more and more avenues for connecting with customers. Content, social media, e-mail, mobile—the list goes on. One way you can optimize your content is by using a variety of engaging images on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. Did you know that 80% of users say images are important when deciding whether or not to trust a company? Optimizing each and every one of your digital assets can help ensure you reach as many people as possible and create real engagement.
