A Lonely Lioness
Three lionesses lye basking in the warm Savannah sun, Feigning no interest in the gazelles and zebra as they run, Just cleaning paws with long deft strokes of their tongue, Soon the bossy male will be roaring they don't have too long.
Two of the felines have pale tan coats that gleam from their diet, But their sister looks leaner for no meat though they beg her to try it, She gets her sustenance from fruit and plants she sees other beasts eat, Won't admit nutrition wise that she's thinner and slower on her feet.
The male always chides her to help in the kill or lose her pride, He's never lay with her because he says she's on the unnatural side, Always munching on fodder like prey he just doesn't think it's right, So he chides and taunts to bully her such is Alpha male's right.
But her sisters need her help in the chase and she's careful to contribute, They ignore the lion and his badgering to his mean acts they stay mute, She chose this path and will eat what she likes it's all the more remains, Won't even chew the bones nor lick off their bloodier stains.
Her eyes are keen she sees through the males bluster clear enough, Just wants to assert his dominance and pretend he is so tough, Prey to her is something that just competes for the better food, She won't eat it, repeats it, "I'm leaving the pack," she admits as she chewed.
Ears prick up but none offer a resistance she hoped they would, Even old Black Fang her own mother hadn't fully understood, She's tolerated here but that's not living and even if it's to her death, She must find her own way in life and keep searching till her dying breath.
A lioness with her tail low leaves her brethren as it doesn't feel right, She is losing herself in what they follow but for her own way she'll fight, The Alpha roars a defiant laugh at her stupidity what good's a pack of one? Then he plonks himself down in the shade of an acacia tree out of the sun.
