Gone are the days when being educated was an assurance for a good job and a good life. Unlike in the days of our fathers where going to school was the surest assurance for securing a good job even though some of them were only able to attend what we refer to as "Standard six", here in Nigeria,in this era of so much civilization and advancement in Technology, going to the University and graduating only seems to be a step in the long struggle.
The system has been structured in such a way that University certificate doesn't guarantee a good job. You have to know someone who knows someone who works in the office of someone who is in charge of employment there for you to be employed. Little wonder the streets are littered by the action of so many youths who out of frustration have decided to use what they have to get what they want seeing godfatherism has taken over the whole system.
Oh! How pathetic people who are considered graduates look. Joblessness has snatched away respect and sanity from the youths.
So many educated people out there struggling for survival not because they do not know or cannot make impact in their various fields of endeavours but because they do not know someone.
You pass the interview for a job you're qualified for yet you're not given that job because you have refused to see the Managing Director of the Company in "camera" knowing you have to pay either in cash or in kind. Crime rate is on the increase as a result of joblessness. Able men have become political thugs because their certificates have been rendered useless. Single mothers everywhere, the result of giving what they have.
And I ask myself, is this how it will continue? What then is the possible way out......... The need for restructuring.
Until I come your way again, stay safe and remain blessed.
Sanmaevelyn with love.
