. Chittagong seaport
There is nothing new to say about Chittagong, the main seaport of Bangladesh, which was launched in 18 AD. 90% of Bangladesh's imports and exports are made through this port. Lloyds publishes a list of the busiest ports in the world every year. In 2019, this port was recognized as the 64th busiest port in the world. Small ships with a draft of 9.5 meters can dock at this port. The port does not have the capacity to handle more than 10,000 tons of ships. That's why Mother Vessel can't crowd here. At the same time, the port is in poor condition to handle 2.8 million TEU containers a year. So many years of independence have passed. But without some gantry cranes, no development has taken place in this port. There is no space for an extended terminal in this port. However, a bay terminal is being constructed as an extension of Chittagong port recently.
Bay port will be an extended part of Chittagong port !!
Work is underway to build a bay terminal on more than 1,200 acres of land at the mouth of the sea. The cost will be around Tk 25,000 crore. The depth of the port channel here will be such that ships can be crowded to a depth of about 13 meters. As a result, it will not be difficult to crowd large mother vessels. Ships carrying 5,000 containers can easily be crowded. At the same time unloading time will be reduced from 24 to 36 hours. Speed will come in port activities. A total of three terminals will be constructed here. 1500 m or 1.5 km multipurpose terminal, 1225 m container terminal 1, and 630 m container terminal-2.
2. Mongla sea port
Now let's come to Mongla port. There were hundreds of jute-centric industries in Khulna. Mongla was a bustling port. But over time, the port lost its importance due to the closure of other industries, including jute mills. Due to the sinking of several ships in the port channel and the reduction in depth, no ships with a draft of more than 7.5 meters can dock on Mars now. This port is a kind of obsolete. Another important factor is responsible for the condition of this port. That is the underdeveloped communication system. As there is no bridge over the Padma, this port can be said to be isolated from a kind of capital. However, if the Padma Bridge is completed and the ongoing project with a direct rail link is completed, the port will regain its importance, albeit to some extent. And the rail connectivity project is moving forward as part of the modernization of this port. The construction work of Rupsha Railway Bridge, the largest railway bridge in the country, has progressed a lot. In the future, Nepal, India will use this port. Then the demand for this port will increase.
3. Payra deep sea port
Pigeon Port is located on the Rabnabad Channel at the mouth of the Pigeon River in Patuakhali. There is much more opportunity to do other port-centric installations than to do a port with the mainland than on an island. As such the Pigeon Port is a unique move. According to the assessment of British firm HR Wellington & Consortium, it is very important to build a seaport with a draft of 14.5 meters in Bangladesh. Considering the location of the coast from Satkhira to Chittagong, the contribution of these coastal districts to the economy of Bangladesh is negligible. In other words, even though at least half of the total GDP of Bangladesh is supposed to come from these districts, we have not been able to utilize the benefits of the sea due to infrastructural inadequacy. Since the Pigeon Port is located right in the middle of the south, it is easy to understand that the port will give a new impetus to the economy of Bangladesh.
Payra Port Infrastructure:
In the initial, middle and final phase of Payra Port, it will become the largest port in Bangladesh. The project is on about 6000 acres of land. The width of the river at the entrance channel of Payra port is about 4 km. The 11 km long terminal will be extended from the port to the sea. At present, only 1500 containers can be stored at Chittagong Port Terminal. In the case of pigeons, about 75,000 containers can be kept in the terminal. Work on the 1 lakh square feet warehouse will be completed initially. Judging by the depth, there will be an arrangement for unloading ships of about 14 meters draft at Payra port. Where ships with a maximum draft of 9.5 meters can dock at Chittagong port. And if there is a draft of more than 12 meters, it can be called a deep sea port. Note that the depth of Gwadar port in Pakistan is also 14 meters. By dredging it will be made 18 meters. It will be possible to take the pigeon to such depth if you want. It will be possible to create a huge industrial zone around it to connect it with the mainland. The work is being carried out by dividing the total port project into 19 parts. In that case, the investment will be around $ 12-16 billion. At the same time power generation is being made a hub. There is an LNG terminal. The main customer of the port will be the power hub built around the port and the 10,000 acre economic zone. At the same time, separate areas are being created for shipbuilding. With the opening of the Padma Bridge and the completion of the railway from Dhaka to Payra, it will be possible to easily reach the whole country, including Dhaka, in a short time. A bridge over the Pigeon River is being constructed at Lebukhali for direct road connectivity which will connect Pigeon directly to Dhaka within a few years. The port will play a major role in the GDP growth of the backward south. The first unit of the country's largest coal-fired power plant, built around the pigeon, has already been completed.. Matarbari is a deep sea port
Matarbari deep sea port
Matarbari seaport is the deepest seaport in Bangladesh. The area of Maheshkhali Island is about 14 square kilometers. The length of Matarbari channel is about 14.5 km. At low tide the depth is about 14 meters. At high tide, the natural depth is about 16.5 meters. If dredging is done, it is possible to increase the depth further.
Japan has been tasked with determining the location of Matarbari and building a coal-fired power plant, as well as a port. There was not much trouble with the project from the beginning. The cost was Rs 36,000 crore, of which Japan would finance Rs 29,000 crore. At present about 4400 MW of electricity will be generated. Port facilities for unloading coal are included in this project.
With the completion of the Matarbari port, huge investment will come to the island, Bangladesh's second largest economic zone of 24,000 acres. China has already shown interest in investing $ 3 billion there. Japan is bringing their huge investment here. Rail and road connections will be made to connect this port with Cox's Bazar. Carrying coal for the industrial zone's industrial plants and the country's largest power hub will be the main work of the port. The port will also be used for carrying LNG and other cargo.
5. Mirsarai is the first private seaport adjacent to the economic zone
Japan's Jedai, Sajit Corporation and our country's Energypack have teamed up to build a seaport adjacent to Mirsarai, the subcontinent's largest economic zone, at a cost of about $ 2.5 billion. JICA is $ 2 billion here. Agreed to finance. IFC will finance $ 100 million.
There are very few economic zones in the world that are as attractive as the Mirsarai Economic Zone. Why? In this region adjacent to the sea, people would not be afraid before. Huge area was unused. After taking up the project of making economic zone, it has now become a working area. The sea is part of the subcontinent's largest economic zone of over 30,000 acres. Considering the demand of this economic zone, there are plans to add another 13,000 acres of land. If that happens, the area of the economic zone will be 43,000 acres. The Dhaka-Chittagong Highway is only 18 km away. The airport is very close. At the same time Chittagong port is very close.
Sajit Corporation will set up a seaport here to prevent the pressure of industrial establishments in this vast area on the port of Chittagong. This means that this economic zone will have its own dedicated seaport. And this port is not a port. 40,000 tons of mother vessels can be packed here. Although the size of the port will be small, how many countries in the world have economic zones that can accommodate such a huge ship?
The same thing is happening in Matarbari. The port of Matarbari is connected with an economic zone of 24,000 acres.
It goes without saying that these two ports and economic zones will play an important role in recognizing Bangladesh in the world in the future.
That's good nuture
