Does technology really make our minds lazy?

Do you remember the last time you did a math yourself? Maybe since school days, or when was the last time you had to memorize a friend's phone number? But more than that; have you ever felt that obtaining information could be a barrier or require mental or physical effort to search and investigate?

Of course there are exceptional cases, but in general technology has taken upon itself the tasks of searching, investigating and obtaining information, whatever its type or source on our behalf, even if you want to remember an event in the past or A memory or a person, technology will bring those faces and memories for you to retrieve and display in front of you on screens, so that your memory and imagination becomes idle.

Does technology really affect our mental abilities and our level of intelligence and make our minds lazy? Or is he innocent of this charge?

Between the past and the present

Two hundred years ago, a researcher would have to travel to the nearest library, perhaps hundreds of kilometers away in the capital, and he might have to search in more than one library and in more than one city to find the information he needs. And it might never work! This arduous journey will require a lot of time, effort and money and it is threatened with failure.

Today, this same researcher takes out his smartphone from his pocket while he is sitting on the chair, to ask the Google Assistant the question verbally without bothering himself by writing it, until the answer comes to him within a period of only 0.01 seconds, whatever the type of question!

The rapid development of technology has drastically changed our lives and leaves us with no chance to think. Technology will continue to evolve to take on more tasks on behalf of our brains, our memories, and perhaps our senses or even our feelings, and we can't even imagine what our lives will be like in just the next 50 years.

How our brains work

While it is true that technology reduces our ability to think independently, people who have analytical thinking during their research are the least dependent on smartphones and technology in general because they remember things and are more able to solve problems on their own.

Technology is making people lazier than ever because they view it as an extension of their mind. Even many users of smartphones and tech devices tend to search for the information they know mainly via the Internet or smart devices without making a little effort to think about it.

Therefore, it is necessary to understand the impact of smart devices and technology on a person's psyche and way of thinking before this technology becomes more and more integrated into our lives until we reach a place where we will not be able to remember how it was without it. It may be too late.

Conclusion:

Is technology negatively affecting our minds and making them lazy? The answer is yes. But the answer here is incomplete and unfair to technology. So we have to think about this development, understand it well and try to benefit from it, which is a difficult task because we still do not know much about our brains and their capabilities and mechanisms of action on one. On the one hand, the impossibility of knowing the direction in which the great and accelerating technological development is heading at a high rate on the other hand.
