Once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was explaining something about Islam to some of the leaders of the Quraish tribe. Meanwhile, a blind Companion named Hazrat Abdullah bin Umm Maktum (RA) appeared. He drew the Prophet's attention to a verse from the Qur'an. He added, "Teach me something from what God has taught you." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) found these questions annoying at an inopportune time.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) thought, I am busy with an important task. If these great chiefs of the Quraish converted to Islam, many could be expected to become Muslims. Abdullah bin Umm Maktoum is a Muslim. There are many opportunities to get his training. I understand them, and he's talking about himself. He doesn't even realize how difficult it would be for me to turn my face away from them and focus on him.
Maybe then they won't want to listen to me anymore. In short, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was constricted mentally, and the signs of this contraction appeared on the Prophet's face. On this occasion, Allah revealed the first verses of Surah Abasa to the Prophet (peace be upon him). It is narrated in the hadith that whenever the blind Companion came to the Prophet's court, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) showed him a lot of respect. He would also say, "Welcome to the person about whom our Lord has rebuked me."
