Piranha is a terrifying giant fish in South American freshwater. Although it is not known how this fish came to Bangladesh, it is believed that this fish was first brought to Bangladesh from Thailand. Although it arrived in Bangladesh as an aquarium bahari fish, after successful breeding at the hands of enthusiastic hatchery technicians, it went beyond the boundaries of the aquarium to the farming pond. At present this fish is being farmed and sold in different districts of Bangladesh. This giant species of fish has hard and sharp teeth and strong jaws. For this reason, they can easily tear the body of the predator or tear the meat. They are usually carnivorous fish. Piranhas are usually 14-26 cm in length. However, in some species they can grow up to 43 cm. They are found in the Amazon Basin, especially in the rivers Orinco in Brazil, Guyana and the Paran in Paraguay. Piranha fish is sold in Bangladesh as Rupchanda fish. Many people mistakenly call it Rupchanda fish because it has some similarities with Rupchanda in general. This fish is becoming popular day by day among the common people of Bangladesh as it is available at low prices. Now when you go to the market, you can always see this monstrous fish. Some of the secrets are not sold openly. There are about 260 species of freshwater fish and 465 species of marine fish in Bangladesh. Undoubtedly, Bangladesh is very rich in terms of fisheries resources. But such exotic giant fish can cause huge damage to our fish resources. The giant giant fish called piranha can eat small fish, big fish, domestic animals and even humans. As a result of cultivating this species of fish in the pond, the native species of fish in the pond may become extinct. If in any way this fish moves from the pond to the river, it will be a great disaster for our fishery resources. Eggs and fry of freshwater native species will not be spared from the giant teeth of the piranha. It is very sad that in our country this giant piranha fish is being cultivated in Dedar now. Everyone, including high-ranking government officials, needs to be vigilant so that this piranha fish is not farmed, marketed and preserved anywhere else.
