Security forces have killed 13 militants in retaliation for a Taliban attack in the restive Dara-e-Suf Payan district of Afghanistan's northern Samangan province. A statement from the country's provincial police headquarters said on Friday.
The statement said armed militants attacked various security outposts in Dara-i-Suf Payan district on Friday morning and police retaliated with army and warplanes. Thirteen militants were killed and five others were injured on the spot.
Many weapons and explosives were recovered from the militants, the statement said. Only one member of the security forces was injured in the fighting.
The statement also said that militant eradication operations are continuing to ensure lasting peace in the area. However, the Taliban has not yet commented on the attack.
