Health mafias are still out of reach. Occasionally, some limestone like Abjal Hossain is caught and sent to jail, but the mafias are always in control. If Abzal owns hundreds of crores of rupees, then the question is how much money has been looted by his patron mafia. The health sector is in a vicious cycle of corruption. Corruption in the Ministry of Health and the Department of Health is making the country's medical system fragile.

Ministry of Health, Department of Health, Divisional Director (Health), District Surgeon's Office, Upazila Health Complex — Thus a strong syndicate of corrupt people has been formed in the entire health infrastructure. For this reason, it is an open secret that even though the government allocates a large amount of money to the health sector every year, most of its looters go into the pockets of the gang. The fact that the health system has been crippled by the vile creatures of corruption has become clear in recent times. Thieves bigger than the Thief of Baghdad, as described in the Arabic novel, have also been credited with allowing the fake hospital to conduct coronary tests and treatment. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had written to the health ministry to take action against 23 more officials and employees like Abjal in the health department. But no action was taken against anyone except Abjal. On the contrary, many of these corrupt officials have been promoted. The ACC has rewarded one of the directors against whom the allegations were made. Thus the corrupt are being encouraged. There is an administrative officer, don't go even if he is transferred. He lives here because he can get money by word of mouth. Nothing happens to them as a class of ministry officials are involved in corruption. And so it can be seen in front of Abjal. Those behind them are not seen.

The ACC has said that without the cooperation of the ministry, it will not be possible to ensure punishment against the corrupt in the health sector. Thirteen top corrupt officials were asked to be blacklisted nine months ago. But the ministry did not take action against them for 9 months. When the corruption of the Corona period came to the notice of all, action was taken against those corrupt people. There is no paperwork in various purchases including masks, PPE.

Iqbal Mahmood, chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), told Ittefaq that those responsible for corruption in the health sector would be brought to justice with appropriate information and evidence. But it is not possible to ensure the punishment of the corrupt without the cooperation of the ministry. If the ministry does not cooperate, the corrupt will be released due to lack of sufficient evidence.

A Dhaka court has denied bail to Health Department employee Abzal Hossain in two cases of illegal acquisition of assets and sent him to jail. Abzal surrendered in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayesh through lawyer Shahinur Islam and applied for bail. Mahmud Hossain Jahangir opposed the bail on behalf of the ACC. At one stage of the hearing, when the judge asked Abjal, who was standing on the bench, what his position was, the accused said that he was an accounting officer. The judge then said, ‘You are the clerk. Third class employees, what is the officer? He also lied to the judge. The judge's words created humor in the court. After the hearing, the judge denied bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Earlier, on August 23, Abzal Hossain surrendered to the court through a lawyer and applied for bail. In one of the two cases, Abzal Hossain is the sole accused and in the other his wife Rubina Khanam is the joint accusedOn June 26 last year, ACC deputy director Taufiqul Islam filed two cases under the Prevention of Illegal Assets, Money Laundering and Corruption Act at the ACC's integrated district office Dhaka-1. In the two cases, allegations have been leveled against the Abjal couple for acquiring and possessing illegal assets worth Tk 36.30 crore 71,493. Besides, allegations of smuggling of Tk 264.51 crore through long-term transfer, conversion and transfer have also been brought.

Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Secretary General. Ehteshamul Haque Chowdhury Dulal said that no one can be promoted or transferred while there is a case against the ACC. But here it is possible. He said those involved in corruption in the health sector must be punished. At the same time the Ministry of Health, Department of Health, Divisional Director (Health), Civil Surgeons at the district level, this whole chain has to be held accountable in the Upazila Health Complex.

Health department officials said, "We are hostages to the corrupt." Can't take action. Their power is much higher. It is not possible to touch. We are helpless to them.
