Personal life refers to the part of a person's life that is intimately related to him or her and is related to his or her own being and independent will. Contrary to this notion, man has a public social life, where he has to share the customs and values prevalent in the society with other people in the society. On the other hand, personal life involves household activities and public life involves employment or business activities.
In ancient Greece there was a division between politically oriented public life and personal life based on family and economic relations. However, historians have identified modernity, industrialization, urbanization, gender-based division of labor, etc. as the reasons for the division between private and public life in the modern age. Many sociologists of the post-modernist genre believe that such divisions are no longer obvious or stable, but are ever-changing. U.S. Professor Joshua Meyrowitz argues that electronic media is more important than personal life and publicity
Everyone has that aspect of their lives that is personal.
