The biggest reason behind the fact that the literacy rate in Bangladesh is only 51.6% is the crisis in the education system. There is a multifaceted crisis in our education system.
The following is a summary of the crises in the education system:
β Lack of up-to-date education:
The present era is called the era of globalization. Skilled manpower is needed to survive in this competitive world of information technology. But the current education system is not technologically dependent and cannot keep pace with globalization. Which is holding us back.
β Discriminatory Education System:
The Constitution of Bangladesh promises a universal, people-oriented and non-discriminatory education system for the people. But there is a huge disparity in the quality of teaching, school management system, school materials etc. As a result, inequality in education is increasing day by day.
β Lack of pragmatic education policy:
A number of post-independence education policies have been introduced since the Kudrat-i-Khuda Education Commission in 1972. But in order to create the necessary, skilled manpower, we need a precise up-to-date education policy which has not been formulated in the real sense even today.
β Memorization based education system:
Students have to take memorization based education as there are less opportunities for practical education. However, up to the secondary level, creative education system has been formulated at present. But at a higher level there is still reliance on memorization.
β Reluctance to learn English:
In the age of globalization, English is not just a language, it is another name for technology. But in madrasas and general education system, nominal English is taught which hinders the development of necessary and skilled manpower.
β Commercialization of education:
At present, schools, colleges and universities are being built unplanned. But the quality of education is not increasing. On the other hand, teachers are forgetting the ideal of teaching and are continuing their business by coaching or teaching at home.
β Lack of skilled teachers:
The present government emphasizes on education but does not provide much training for teachers. As a result, skilled manpower is not being developed due to lack of trained teachers.
β Teachers' movement:
Teachers are now taking to the streets in various issues ranging from salaries to salaries, which is causing a huge disruption in the learning environment.
β Question paper leaked:
One of the reasons for the current education crisis is the leaked question paper. This heinous crime is being organized with the help of a special court. As a result, real talent is not being manifested in the field of education. Which is acting as an obstacle in the way of our development.
β Student Politics and Terrorism:
At present, the study environment is being disrupted due to the infiltration of politics and terrorism in the campus. Students are being used in politics, as a result of which the campus is stagnating in various movements.
β The way to solve the crisis in the education system and what we have to do:
The more educated a nation is, the more developed it is. So overcoming the crisis of the education system is essential for our overall development. Therefore, the moral responsibility of all of us as well as the government is to make the education system problem-free.
We need to take the following steps to address the crisis in the education system:
- The education system needs to be up-to-date, scientific, action-oriented, technology-based and practical.
- We have to ensure equal rights for all in the field of education and eliminate all educational inequalities.
- To formulate practical and implementable education policy based on technology.
- In order to develop full merit in the field of education, it is necessary to change the memorized education system.
- English should not only be seen as a foreign language but also as an essential language for globalization.
- Appropriate standards of education should be maintained by closing down coaching centers, schools, colleges and universities established on commercial basis.
- Teachers need to be trained properly and teachers need to be trained.
- Education administration must be free from political and bureaucratic influence.
- Question paper leaks must be suppressed with a firm hand.
If we take these steps properly, I hope this problem will be gone easily.
