The Philippines are home to thousands of species in addition to stunning tourism locations. More than half of the Philippines' 50,000 species of flora and animals are found nowhere else on the planet. However, many endangered species in the Philippines are on the verge of extinction, owing to widespread poaching.

PHILIPPINE CROCODILE

The Philippine crocodile is commonly regarded as a dangerous livestock and man-eating predator. In actuality, the snails that assist farmers control introduced pest species in their rice fields are what they devour, especially the critically endangered Philippine crocodile.

PHILIPPINE EAGLE

The Philippine Eagle is a one-of-a-kind bird. The critically endangered Philippine eagle makes a majestic impression with its creamy white underbelly and crown-like shaggy feathers. However, because its population is categorized as severely endangered, this one-of-a-kind eagle is now in jeopardy. It is now one of the country's top ten endangered species. In the wild, only 400 adult Philippine eagle endangered pairs survive.

TARSIER

Many individuals searched for tarsiers before the establishment of the Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary. The world's second-smallest primates were being sold, maintained as pets by private individuals in circumstances unsuitable for their survival, or killed.

WILD PIG

The wild pig specie above, known locally as baboy damo, are native to the Philippines and are classed as near threatened, vulnerable, and critically endangered in the Philippines. The reason for this is that wild pigs are hunted for food in the area. Let us all do our share to help safeguard the Philippines' wild creatures.

PHILIPPINE FOREST TURTLE

According to the Turtle Conservancy, the real geographic distribution of the turtle in the Philippines was unknown for nearly 80 years until a chance discovery of one specimen in a Palawan market in the late 1980s, and then the rediscovery of wild populations in 2004.

ENDANGERED PLANTS IN THE PHILIPPINES

STAGHORN FERN

The Staghorn Fern, Platycerium coronarium, is a brilliant green plant with shield fronds that are lobed at the top. The fertile fronds are bifurcately split and can hang from 1 to 3 meters. It differs from other Platyceriums in that the spore-carrying body is shaped like a kidney or an ear. It is now available as a high-priced ornamental plant. It is now categorized as critically endangered, and if it is not protected, it will soon be added to the list of extinct plants in the Philippines.

WALING-WALING

The orchid Vanda sanderiana, often known as waling-waling, is a flower that belongs to the Vanda genus. The orchid is known as the "Queen of Philippine Flowers" and is revered by the indigenous Bagobo people as a diwata. This highly endangered plant species in the Philippines is found on the trunks of dipterocarp trees at elevations below 500 meters in the provinces of Davao, Cotabato, and Zamboanga in Mindanao.

KRIS PLANT

Kris Plant is a tropical perennial with glossy, V-shaped, deeply lobed leaves that are erect and polished. In its natural habitat, the plant can grow up to 6.5 feet tall and wide. It has evergreen, pelted leaves that are a lustrous deep green with prominent, silvery-white veins. This is typically used as a houseplant.

CATMON

The catmon tree is a fruit-bearing tree that can only be found in the Philippines. The fruit has a variety of uses, including vinegar and fish seasoning, as well as achara and preserves. Cough can also be treated with it. Catmon is threatened by logging and wood exploitation, as well as habitat degradation.

That's it!! Have you seen any of those endangered animals and plants before? If yes, what are those? If no, what species would you like to see?

Comments

The tarsier is a very cute little animal, I have never seen it but I love it. It is unfortunate how human beings are not aware of the damage they cause, it is very sad that some of these species disappear as many others have already done.
