The Word Became Flesh

1 first and foremost was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God initially. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all humankind. 5 The light sparkles in the dimness, and the murkiness has not overcome[a] it.

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as an observer to affirm worried that light, so that through him all may accept. 8 He himself was not the light; he came uniquely as an observer to the light.

9 The genuine light that offers light to everybody was appearing on the scene. 10 He was on the planet, and however the world was made through him, the world didn't remember him. 11 He went to that which was his own, however his own didn't get him. 12 Yet to everything who got him, to the individuals who had faith in his name, he gave the option to become offspring of God—13 youngsters conceived not of characteristic drop, nor of human choice or a spouse's will, yet conceived of God.

14 The Word became fragile living creature and made his abode among us. We have seen his wonder, the magnificence of the unrivaled Son, who originated from the Father, brimming with effortlessness and truth.

15 (John affirmed concerning him. He shouted out, saying, "This is the one I talked about when I stated, 'He who comes after me has outperformed me since he was before me.'") 16 Out of his completion we have all gotten elegance instead of effortlessness previously given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; elegance and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever observed God, however the unrivaled Son, who is himself God and[b] is in nearest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

John the Baptist Denies Being the Messiah

19 Now this was John's declaration when the Jewish leaders[c] in Jerusalem sent ministers and Levites to ask him what his identity was. 20 He didn't neglect to admit, yet admitted uninhibitedly, "I am not the Messiah."

21 They asked him, "At that point who right? Is it true that you are Elijah?"

He stated, "I am most certainly not."

"Is it true that you are the Prophet?"

He replied, "No."

22 Finally they stated, "Who right? Offer us a response to reclaim to the individuals who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"

23 John answered in the expressions of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one bringing in the wild, 'Make straight the route for the Lord.'"[d]

24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent 25 addressed him, "Why at that point do you immerse in the event that you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"

26 "I absolve with[e] water," John answered, "however among you stands one you don't have a clue. 27 He is the person who comes after me, the lashes of whose shoes I am not qualified to loosen."

28 This all occurred at Bethany on the opposite side of the Jordan, where John was absolving.

John Testifies About Jesus

29 The following day John saw Jesus coming toward him and stated, "Look, the Lamb of God, who removes the transgression of the world! 30 This is the one I implied when I stated, 'A man who comes after me has outperformed me since he was before me.' 31 I myself didn't have any acquaintance with him, however I came submersing with water because that he may be uncovered to Israel."

32 Then John gave this declaration: "I saw the Spirit descend from paradise as a dove and stay on him. 33 And I myself didn't have any acquaintance with him, yet the person who sent me to submerse with water let me know, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the person who will absolve with the Holy Spirit.' 34 I have seen and I affirm that this is God's Chosen One."

John's Disciples Follow Jesus

35 The following day John was there again with two of his pupils. 36 When he saw Jesus cruising by, he stated, "Look, the Lamb of God!"

37 When the two pupils heard him state this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you need?"

They stated, "Rabbi" (which signifies "Educator"), "where are you remaining?"

39 "Come," he answered, "and you will see." So they proceeded to see where he was staying, and they went through that day with him. It was around four in the early evening.

40 Andrew, Simon Peter's sibling, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The main thing Andrew did was to discover his sibling Simon and let him know, "We have discovered the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). 42 And he carried him to Jesus.

Jesus took a gander at him and stated, "You are Simon child of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when deciphered, is Peter[g]).

Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

43 The following day Jesus chose to leave for Galilee. Discovering Philip, he said to him, "Follow me."

44 Philip, similar to Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. 45 Philip discovered Nathanael and let him know, "We have discovered the one Moses expounded on in the Law, and about whom the prophets likewise composed—Jesus of Nazareth, the child of Joseph."

46 "Nazareth! Can anything great originate from that point?" Nathanael inquired. "Come and see," said Philip.

47 When Jesus saw Nathanael drawing closer, he said of him, "Here genuinely is an Israelite in whom there is no misleading."

48 "How would you know me?" Nathanael inquired. Jesus replied, "I saw you while you were as yet under the fig tree before Philip called you."

49 Then Nathanael proclaimed, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the ruler of Israel."

50 Jesus stated, "You believe[h] in light of the fact that I disclosed to you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see more noteworthy things than that." 51 He at that point added, "really I tell you,[i] you[j] will see 'paradise open, and the blessed messengers of God rising and dropping on'[k] the Son of Man."
