OVERVIEW OF ICT

The term ICT was defined as Related Technologies that facilitates the transfer of information and various types of electronically mediated communication.

The need for devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, and tablet is identified in all instances, this fact is perhaps due to the human need to "belong"

IT VS ICT

IT or Information Technology - Pertains to industry that involves computers, software, networking, other IT infrastructure that help relay or manage information deemed important in modern-day living.

ICT or Information & Communication Technology - Refers to technology that supports activities involving information such as gathering, processing, storing & presenting data, increasingly these activities also involve collaboration & communication.

ICT IS MADE UP OF 3 WORDS

1. INFORMATION

  • Knowledge obtained from reading, investigation, study & research

  • regarded as a processed data

  • needed to make decisions and to foresee the future

  • some tools that transmit information are CP, TV, Radio etc.

*knowledge - is a processed information which help fulfill tasks

2. COMMUNICATION

  • is an act of transmitting messages

  • a process in which information is exchanged between individual through verbal and non-verbal means

  • with the technology, communication is faster, more convenient and more efficient

3. TECHNOLOGY

  • evolved in many ways that improve people's daily activities

  • has made communication easier and faster through telephones, pay machines, mobile devices and the internet.

  • has always depended on one thing: the human rationale

  • human tend to think of ways on how to discharge workload or do daily activities easily.

  • the concept of technology always starts with the basic tools

EVOLUTION OF TECHNOLOGY

1. MACHINES

-came up when people combine this set of tools, which can do the task faster & efficient.

2. COMPUTER

-an electronic device capable of manipulating data

-another type of machines that's considered as necessity

3. AUTOMATED SYSTEM

-reduces the instances of errors, increases productivity and lessen the time.

4. INTELLIGENT SYSYTEM

-this is where the concept of "AI" comes in, not the same as automated system.

HISTORY OF COMPUTER

With the Evolution of Technology, Computers have taken a major role in the last three decades. This is due to the fact that people have become increasingly independent on computers to do their daily task in school, at works or in their routines.

1. FIRST GENERATION COMPUTER (1946-1959)

-ENIAC- first electronic computer developed, designed by J. Presper Eckert & Jhon Mouchly

-was a modular computer, composed of several panels capable of performing a different function.

2. SECOND GENERATION COMPUTER (1959-1965)

-TRANSISTOR- was invented, used as the interior sections of the computer they generate, less heat and consumed less electricity but costly.

3. THIRD GENERATION COMPUTER (1965-1971)

-INTEGRATED CIRCUIT (IC)- was invented by Jack Kilby in 1965

-IC was used instead of Transistors as the interior sections to build a computer a single IC has many transistors, resistors & capacitors that even the full circuit board of a transistor can be replaced entirely with one chip. This chip made the computer smaller, unfailing and effective.

4. FOURTH GENERATION COMPUTER (1971-1980)

-Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) was invented, used to build computers.

-these circuits have about 5000 transistors and other elements with their connected circuits on a single chip known as the microprocessor.

-PC became more powerful, reliable and inexpensive. The other application of these microprocessor technology can be used and applied for pocket calculations, TV sets, automotive devices & audio/video appliances.

5. FIFTH GENERATION COMPUTER (1980-onwards)

-Ultra Large Scale Integration (ULSI) Technology was invented, involves Computer Intelligence which is associated with AI and expert systems that interpret the means and practices of producing computers that think like human beings.
