News of the misconduct of counterfeit note dealers is occasionally printed on the pages of newspapers. They became more active on the eve of the festival. Counterfeit notes are distributed in the shopping malls and even in the shopping malls. One hundred, five hundred and one thousand rupees notes are more counterfeit. The Eid of Sacrifice is coming. The note counterfeiters will try to smuggle counterfeit notes in the middle of bundles of money at the sacrificial animal market. Their main target is the simple, straightforward and illiterate people of the villages. Knowing the easy way to identify genuine and counterfeit notes can help prevent fraud.

Easy Way to Recognize Original Banknotes: The new four hundred rupees, five hundred and one thousand rupees banknotes with the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have four main security features such as color changing ink, uneven printing, security thread and watermark. Notes can be recognized. The notes can also be checked with the help of counterfeit note detector.

Color Variable Ink: In the upper right corner of the notes denominated in Rs. 100, Rs. 500 and Rs. When the notes of one hundred and one thousand rupees are gently moved, the value of the notes gradually changes from gold to green. Similarly, the 500 denomination on a five hundred taka note changes from red to green. This color used in counterfeit notes does not change even if it is glossy.

Uneven printing: Front and rear designs of Rs.100, Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes, center text, denomination notes and seven parallel straight lines are printed horizontally. When rubbed with the fingers, these designs, writings and lines feel uneven.

Moreover, on the right side of the note, there are three small round marks on the one hundred taka note, four on the five hundred taka note and five small round marks on the one thousand taka note, which seem to be uneven at the touch of the fingers. It is not possible to add these features to counterfeit notes.

Security Yarn: There is a security thread with denominations of one hundred rupees, five hundred rupees and one thousand rupees notes and with the logo of Bangladesh Bank. The denomination of the note and the logo of Bangladesh Bank are printed in four places on the security thread. This security thread is very strong which is an integral part of note paper. It is not possible to lift the safety thread by scratching or twisting the nails. The safety thread on the counterfeit note easily scratches the nail.

The value of the monograms and notes of Bangladesh Bank looks brighter than the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Punishment: Counterfeiting notes and buying and selling counterfeit notes are punishable offenses. The maximum punishment for this crime is life imprisonment. The Special Powers Act of 1974 provides for punishment for this crime.

In case of detection of counterfeit notes: In case of counterfeit notes presented by a customer, the bank officials in many cases return the counterfeit notes to the customer, which is not legal. The Treasury Rules have clear guidelines on what to do in this regard. If counterfeit notes are identified, the presenter along with the counterfeit notes should be handed over to the law enforcement authorities and the nearest office of Bangladesh Bank should be informed. If the bank officials are satisfied that the presenter has presented it in good faith, then the counterfeit note should be confiscated. At the time of confiscation, a 'fake' seal should be affixed on the note. Or write the word 'fake' in capital letters in red ink. On the other side of the counterfeit note, the name of the presenter, father's name, current and permanent address, full signature and date should be written. He will have to take a written statement as to from whom he received the note. If the presenter is illiterate, he should take the thumbprint of his left hand.

For further investigation, the counterfeit notes and the statement of the presenter of the counterfeit notes should be forwarded to the law enforcement authorities. After the investigation, the law enforcement authorities will send the counterfeit notes and the investigation report along with the currency officer of Bangladesh Bank.
