Few years back, I escaped being hit by a stray bullet.
It all started when I was secondary school. It was our inter-house sport competition, this faithful day. Around 4pm, we heard the first gunshot, we thought it was Knock outs. It was around Christmas period then.
Then, gunshots after gunshots followed. Everyone ran, screaming. A robbery operation was going on in a bank. This particular bank is very close to my school.
Some people at the bank were killed that day. Luckily for us, none of the he students were hurt. But, I was told some stray bullets landed on our field. My classmate said one landed beside her.
It was a lucky day for us student that day.
On my way home, God, I saw countless bullets shell. I was shivering. So, damn scared. My parents were already worried. I think I got home around 7pm or close to 8pm that day.
Again, I think two years after, the robbers came again. To that same bank. I heard it was a lady that led the operation.
A lady selling recharge cards near the bank, narrated her experience with one of the robbers. She said, " A particular beautiful lady came to her stall, asked for MTN recharge card.
She told the lady to sit down. She was nice to her customer, even gist with her. Unknowing to her, she was having a discussion with the leader of the robbers.
Her very kind attitude saved her life this particular day. When it was time to start the operation, the beautiful lady brought out her weapon, while her team started shooting sporadically. She just told the lady that sells recharge card to lie down under her.
She was flat on her tummy, in between her legs, while she continued to shoot. After the operation, the leader told this lady that her kindness saved her this day. She even offered to buy the gang leader a soft drink.
It pays to be nice. She was saved, while some were killed.
Back to my experience, I was home with my brother when they started shooting.
Out of curiosity, we both went outside, climbed my father's car. Trying to catch a glimpse of what is happening.
Our house is not even close to the bank at all. The moment we bent a little, a stray bullet went past our heads. My head, to be precise. I almost froze to death.
The bullet would have entered my head directly, assuming we didn't bend. I was terrified.
In 2018, after church service on a Thursday evening. I went to my pastor's house to borrow a textbook from his son.
It was some minutes past 7pm. I was almost close to my church, when o heard gunshots from the hotel nearby.
I ran, like I would not run again. Later, I was told Police got information that some robbers were logged in that hotel. They were planning to rob again. So, they opened fire on the police.
While running, I don't know how, but I was about to fall. You know that moment when you hit your leg on something, while running, it feels like you are about to fall, right?.
That was what happened to me. But, I didn't hit my leg on anything. The moment, I was about to fall, a bullet flew pass.
I wasn't aware. I somehow managed to enter the church. We have people living in our church compound.
They were the one that told me a bullet just landed in the compound, right before I came in.
I was like, Jesus! You saved me again!... Another wonderful escape.
I didn't know how to thank God.
The woman in the church noticed how I was shivering. She made sure she followed me home that night.
It was a great escape and testimony for me.
