Introduction

My name is Ikemefuna Peter Ani and I am from Akpugo in Nkanu West LGA, Enugu State Nigeria. I was born on April 4th 1987 into the family of 7 ( 3 boys and four girls). It was a wonderful but altogether difficult experience for me growing up as a child due to the poor background I came from.

My dad was a mechanic ( he repaired Volkswagen cars) who made his mark in the business during his youthful days but unfortunately as soon as modernization, globalization, technology, computer and jet age came on board, he was out of business. He tried his best to raise I and all my siblings academically not less than senior secondary school level of WAEC and NECO. My mom too was a petty trader and farmer. She too contributed in no small measure to making sure that we are raised up as responsible kids to both our family and the society at large. Though she wasn't educated, she did all her possible best in supporting my father to ensure that we experience at least basic educational background. To the glory of God, her prayers were answered because today, not only did we finish senior secondary school but also most of us are graduates today from various institutions all over this country.

Immediately after my secondary school final exams in 2005, my father took me to a Yoruba computer Engineer and Technician, Mr. Idowu Semiu @ Ogui Road Enugu, close to Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to help train me in computer engineering and repairs and maintenance. After learning under him for almost two years, he certified me competent enough to use that knowledge as a means of livelihood and survival. Indeed, I began hustling from one shop, street, markets and even schools for those who might be in need of my services. The pay as at that time was just a meager peanut that doesn't really solve much of the challenges and ambitious visions I was having at the time. I finally settled down at a printing press owned by my in-law and there I spent up to seven years, practicing both my computer profession and at the same time learning about printing and publishing of books, journals and magazines.

It is interesting to note that while I was at the printing press, I also was highly and seriously dedicated and devoted to my faith in God, which was instilled in me by my mom and some other destiny helpers. I was a study teacher and co-ordinator, drama organiser, evangelist who goes about preaching to people to accept the good ways of peace and love.

MY SPIRITUAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY Although I was in the church, but my father who was an ardent idol worshipper had me initiated into our village masquerade where I was warned never to speak about what transpired at the night of initiation and at other nights of the masquerade dance or else I would be turned into a ripped pepper. My father always took us to the village once in a year and during new yam festivals and at other occasions to offer sacrifices of goat and hen to the idol in our compound. He was a rich man in the things of the world but poor towards God. The idol I am talking about which was molded with a human face, would make lights to go off at night while one passes by it. There were also other molded images inside our compound and another one at the back of our house, on a very gigantic cherry tree. During the annual idol celebration called ‘Igo Iyi’ which means renewal of vows made to the idol so that it can continue to protect and provide for us, there was enough eating and drinking with family and friends around to celebrate with my family. This was the life I was born into and I grew up developing likeness for such a dark and blind life of poverty and destruction.

My mother was an illiterate farmer but God really used her in a great way to making me who I am today. Although I was a young boy, but right from my primary school to my secondary school days, I was known for stubbornness, fighting both at school and at home, insolent to my elders and generally wayward in character and behavior. To make matters worse, my mother had a shop where we sell all kinds of hot drinks and cigarette that attracts all manner of miserable people around us. I grew up in an environment I can best describe as ghetto, because in it one is exposed to all manner of social vices including armed robbery, cultism, drugs, promiscuity and the likes. I and some of my friends sometimes would go to watch movies in the room of one of our neighbours who occasionally do insert pornographic films for us to watch. Indeed, I was swimming in the ocean of ignorance and on the expressway to destruction.

I met the Lord Jesus Christ not by a sudden encounter but by gradual and step by step process that brought about revelation and enlightenment through the shared word of God. Towards the end of my secondary school days in 2004, I joined a newly established youth group in the church then called Young Anglican Crusaders (YAC). It was in this place that God began to expose issues about my life and that of my family. I began to see that although I was a full communicant as a result of baptism and confirmation in the Anglican Church, yet far in spirit from the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for me and gave himself a ransom for me. I never knew that lying, cheating, disobedience, lust, stealing, idol worship or not having knowledge about the Lord Jesus Christ, was enough to land me in hellfire. Through teachings and preaching and prayer meetings, God began a spiritual formation process that at first was difficult for me to accept but with time brought me closer to Gods throne of grace. I was made to cry almost every day in the church, because the word of God which is sharper than a two edged sword, began to pierce through my heart and spirit, convicting and convincing me of my sins. Also I began to see how backward my family had been, physically and spiritually as a result of idol worship.

My family began praying and also fasting together in other to see if there could be a change in our lives. However, I must confess that majority of my family members began seeking the face of the Lord only because of financial breakthrough, but not actually to know the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. We invited different men of God once in a while to the village and all my family members would travel from far and near to attend the prayer which was chiefly organized for a way out of financial bondage. Some of the prophets that came attributed our situation to our ancestors while some others say it is the work of our enemies. We were not concerned about whom or what was responsible for our woes, all we needed was a solution. Some of the prophets only came to have their own share of our money but none of their prophecies ever came to pass. It was a hard fought fight but in the end, the Lord gracious and merciful, began to gradually bring us out of all debts, sicknesses, cases, influences and all sorts of devilish shadows that hovered around us.
