The twin babies Rabeya and Rokaiya, who underwent surgery in 33 consecutive hours and the relentless labor of 100 surgeons, have been successfully separated.
A statement from the Defense Ministry's Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate said such surgeries were rare in the world. This is the first such operation in the subcontinent.
According to the CMH authorities in Dhaka, such operations are very complex and the success rate is not very high. These children, who are 3 years and 15 days old after the surgery, are now in a stable condition. But in the case of such surgeries, the post-operative risks and complications are very high.
The most complicated part of the surgery, the 'twin brain', was separated at the Combined Military Hospital. Hundreds of surgeons from CMH's neuro anesthesiologists, neuro and plastic surgeons including Dhaka Medical College, Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute, Heart Foundation, Neuro Science Institute, Suhrawardy Hospital and Children's Hospital also took part in the operation.

These girls from Mulgram Union of Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna were admitted in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College in 2016. Here surgery is performed on the blood vessels of the brain at two levels. The two children were later sent to Hungary in January last year for advanced treatment. A total of 46 surgeries were performed there.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been in charge of the treatment of the two children since 2016. Doctors say one in five to six million children is born with such a rare complex brain problem. The Hungarian charity Action for Defense People's Foundation (ADPF), through the Hungarian government, has actively supported the treatment. Founded in 2002, it serves poor people around the world, including in Hungary.
