A reflex is an automatic, involuntary, and possibly defensive response that gives the person an perceived aggression such as closing the eyelids when something comes into our eyes. When this reaction is mediated by thought it becomes a voluntary act and it is no longer a reflection.

They are primitive reactions
Most neonatal reactions are primitive reactions that were part of our ancestors' abilities. Today we do not use them, but they have been recorded in our genes and appear exactly when humans are not yet neurologically complete: at birth.
Except for search and suction reflexis, which have a specific function (feeding), other reflexes have no benefit. However, there are theories that try to explain its usefulness but have no scientific basis and should not be taken at face value.
