The mayan culture was a civilization that is geographically located in the territory of southern Mexico, Guatemala and other areas of Central America. With a rich history of 3000 years ago it was one of the pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures.
Its main productive activity waas agriculture, which was widely devoloped. The mayans has a religious system dedicated to study and veneration of the cosmos. They were fluent in written lenguage and were skilled architecs, risk merchans and talented artists.
The Mayans has an economics practice based on bartering, they exchanged objects produced by agriculture and pottery. However, dried cocoa beans were one of the most important commertial objects in their culture.
During the Spanish intervention , Hernán Cortés reported the inconveniences they presented in obteining food, since the indigenous people.
In addition to commencial use, cocoa was used to make different flavored drinks. Ranging from bitter to sweet, even spicy when combined with chili. There is no doubt that the mayans had a delicious, environmentally sustainable and inflation-proof currency.
Currently cocoa is appreciated for its culinary value in the production of chocolate and cocoa-based drinks.
