The state must adopt a zero tolerance policy to prevent rape
A student of Dhaka University was raped on her way to her girlfriend's house on Sunday. Then the angry university students. People from different walks of life are expressing solidarity with them. Analysts say rape will not stop unless it builds resistance to rape, regardless of party affiliation. They say the state needs to adopt a zero tolerance policy to prevent rape.
In this regard, fiction writer Anwara Syed Haque told Womennews24.com that it is a very sad thing. We are citizens of an independent country. How many years have passed since our country became independent today. We are celebrating the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. The nation is getting a new impetus. If something like rape happens inside her, we as a nation go down very low. As a nation we become very inferior. The dignity that we have built up in the world as a nation suddenly collapses in it.
He said, "Our reputation, our wealth and our reputation in the world are interrupted by these negative incidents." We are developing, we are developing ourselves as a developed nation, as a developing economic society. We find ourselves very humble inside ourselves.
"Self-esteem, our civilization, our culture, our culture, everything seems to have collapsed," he added. So that's nothing to say. It is a shame, a pity, and I think this kind of thing will continue to happen if it is not protested from all sides and if it is not brought to justice. The acid in the girls' mouths was very strong a few years ago. These have come down a lot after the government took action very hard. Now some difficult steps should be taken. Through which the abusive and obscene behavior towards girls seems to stop soon.
Anwara Syed Haque said, "Even today, a 13-year-old girl committed suicide out of grief. She was raped." Every week in the newspaper we see this kind of thing happening somewhere. It is not an isolated event. It seems like a series of events are happening one after another. So we have to think a lot, where is the society going? How can we guide this society? How will the emergence of good intellect in people. How can we, as a country with all people, move forward on the path of development.
He said that the way the girls of Dhaka University have been protesting since yesterday, the mood in the newspapers became very bad. We are going backwards. Going back and forth. Every time we move forward, an evil force seems to be pushing us backwards. That is all I can say for the rise of human good intellect.
Columnist Syed Abul Maqsood said it was a matter of extreme tragedy. Everyone needs to be vocal against it. This is very sad. All people, regardless of party affiliation, need to be vocal about this.
"We are now in the twentieth century," said Bibi Russell, an internationally renowned designer. In our country where there are four women at the top level. It is not found in any other country in the world. If we can't give dignity to a girl from there, I am shocked to be raped like this during the day. It is not desirable at all. We are an example that no other country in the world has four women in the top level. Two of our opposition leaders plus one of our most important positions is the Minister of Education. How a girl is raped there today. What do people do? They stared and stared? It is written in our hadith, the paradise of the child under the feet of the mother. If we do not accept that today, then what is our future.
āIām very shocked,ā he said. How did this happen inside Dhaka! I can't believe it. In this age where girls will go ahead, rape is happening. I work for the rights of girls but I am very saddened by this incident.
Maleka Banu, general secretary of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, said the safety of women must be ensured in any way. It must be brought to justice as soon as possible. A message must be conveyed to the people that this crime cannot be condoned in any way. In case of rape, zero tolerance has to be taken from the highest level of the state.
He said, Dhaka University has stood by the student in this incident. There is a women's ministry here, they also have to come. Human rights leaders must ask everyone to come. This situation is getting worse day by day. Women's movement is being disrupted. It's like a panic in the house. Today the girls have to go out to study. Must go for a job. I have to go to another job. If that is interrupted, do you have to stay at home?
He added that one must be socially aware. Either way it happened in one area. We have heard that it is a crime prone area. That is the way to go. There should be enough light. There should be patrol system in all these areas. Every family is in a panic. Then how will the girls work. Even then the girls are coming out. How the state is ensuring its security.
"The way the rapes are happening is very tragic, cruel, aggressive and at the same time very worrying," she said. I will say again and again that the rapist must be brought to justice. If this cannot be done, if this message does not go, then the state-society is all vocal against rape. This message cannot be conveyed to every level of society.
