Anti-junta protests in Myanmar are becoming more violent. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Thursday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. However, security forces opened fire, killing 11 protesters today. The news agency Reuters quoted local media as saying.Myanmar's Now and Irabati media reported that six trucks were initially deployed to quell protests in the town of Taz. The protesters fought with them with guns, knives and fire bombs. This resulted in five more truckloads of troops being sent there.

At least 11 protesters were killed and at least 20 others were injured when gunmen opened fire on them on Thursday morning. However, the media did not say anything about the casualties of the army members.

Myanmar's military seized power on February 1 in a military coup. After that, the common people of the country have been protesting against the junta for two months. The rights group, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (APP), said more than 600 people had been killed so far in the security forces' firing.

Eleven protesters were killed in similar clashes in the town of Kal, near the town of Taj, on Wednesday. Security forces used grenades and machine guns on protesters, the APP said.
