Tensions between India and China over the border have been simmering for a month. War broke out in 1972 between the two countries, which cover a distance of 3,500 kilometers (2,184 miles). Besides, there are tensions with Pakistan on the Kashmir border. In such a situation, the question arises, if a war is fought with any opponent, how long will India be able to fight? The question came after a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the country's parliament. According to the report, India has enough weapons to fight a war with any country.
In May 2015, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India submitted a report to the Indian Parliament. That report reveals surprising truths. It is said that if someone goes to war with India, most of the ammunition will be exhausted in just 10 days.
That report was like a blow to the army. Concerned with the report, the military said it had "disregarded" the presence of ammunition for 40 days of "intense" fighting. The CAG report said, "As of March 2013, 50 percent of the arsenal was in such a state that it was not possible to fight with ammunition for more than 10 days."
The Indian Army has some arms shortages. This includes a severe shortage of ammunition, mainly for guns, tanks, aircraft and infantry. And this lack will make it very difficult for India to fight a war.
But the military is now ready to take on that challenge. Deputy Chief of Army Staff Sarat Chandra was given full financial power to buy ammunition and weapons. It was given to increase the efficiency of the army and to maintain the best level of fighting. It was then decided that the process of purchasing ammunition and arms should be completed expeditiously.
The report fears that a brief war with Pakistan or China could be countered. Even if there is no threat of war, ammunition storage is a very important process for the defense forces.
The CAG report included ammunition protection until March 2013. Narendra Modi's government has already started work to fill this gap. At that time, Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the Parliament about various steps. He also gave a list of what weapons are being bought.
Let's see how many weapons are in someone's hand
Military power is used to judge how strong the poles are. Wealthy countries are constantly trying to be strong in military power. Wealthy countries are pouring in huge sums of money to acquire the latest weapons. The two superpowers, the United States and Russia, are taking advantage of this opportunity to sell arms.
In 2015, Global Firepower (GFP) released an indicator of global military capability. The United States, Russia, China, India and the United Kingdom are the top five countries in the index on nuclear warfare. In analyzing the military capabilities of the countries, land, naval and air power as well as resources, finance, geographical issues etc. have been taken into consideration. According to the GFP index, the military reserves of China and India are:
