A The government has asked government employees to refrain from uploading, commenting, liking or sharing any post, photo, audio or video that tarnishes the image of the government or the state through various social media. At the same time, you should refrain from giving any post that demeans the nationally important person, organization or any other service or profession.

The Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday issued a circular reminding the government to follow the guidelines for using social media in government institutions, 2019 (revised version).

The circular also states that the employees concerned will be personally responsible for the misuse of social media or the harmful content of their own accounts and action will be taken in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations.

Further restrictions

According to the circular of the Ministry of Public Administration, it is necessary to refrain from publishing any information that is against the national unity and consciousness. No data may be published that may offend the religious sentiments of a community or contradict secularism. Any post, photo, audio or video upload, comment, like, or share that may disrupt communal harmony or degrade law and order must be refrained from. No sexually explicit or controversial data can be published. Writing, audio or video of any subject which may cause dissatisfaction or unpleasant attitude in the public mind may not be published or shared. Refrain from spreading baseless, untrue and obscene information. In addition, you must refrain from uploading, commenting, liking and sharing posts, photos, audios or videos with negative comments about any other state or state important people.

The circular calls on government officials and employees to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary tags, references or sharing in the selection of content and friends for social media management.

When asked, Public Administration Secretary Sheikh Yusuf Harun told Prothom Alo that it is seen that some officials do not know how to use social media. They make comments, shares or likes about different national personalities or other cadres that are not appropriate for an officer. The circular has been issued so that the officers and employees abide by the issues. Maintaining friendly relations between the cadres so that better services can be provided to the people.
