A Blood donation and blood transfusions have been used for the human body since time immemorial. As ‘Ashraful Makhlukat’ or the best creature of creation, blood is a very important and essential fluid for the protection of precious human life and body. If blood is lost from the body in any accident, if there is bleeding from the intestines or any other organ inside the body, blood is very necessary for surgery. Blood transfusions are essential during childbirth operations or in critical situations such as major accidents. Just as there is no alternative to taking blood for anemia in the human body, the sale of blood to meet the demand for blood is not legal. However, it is legal to buy blood for a patient if he does not get it for free, but the seller will be guilty. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Every disease has a cure. So when the medicine is taken according to the disease, then the patient is cured by the command of Allah. '(Muslim)

In the eyes of Islam, voluntary blood donation saves the precious lives of other people and one's own life is also at risk; Therefore, there are no restrictions on blood donation in Islam. But thousands of people in the country are dying every year due to lack of blood. Donating a bag of blood can save the life of another dying person. If someone voluntarily donates blood, it will save the life of an endangered person or a dying patient, as well as build a blood bond between the blood donor and the recipient. Donating blood voluntarily will not only save the lives of others, but also keep one's own life risk-free. To ensure the highest security of the precious lives of endangered people, the Holy Qur'an declares, "Whoever saves the life of another, let him save the whole human race on earth." (Surat al-Ma'ida, verse 32)

In the Hereafter there will be a just reward from Allah for doing good deeds and good deeds. Since regular blood donations at three-month intervals can detect a person's disease in the initial blood test, it is possible to take precautionary measures to recover in the first place. If the life of another sick and dying brother is saved in exchange for the blood donation of a healthy and strong person, it should be given with interest as the Shari'ah is approved. Voluntary blood donation is of great benefit to the people. And there are many rewards. On the other hand, even the able blood donors are healthy, strong and safe by being inspired by Islamic values both physically and mentally through charity. For this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) gave the message for the benefit of humanity and the protection of life, ‘If any one of you is able to benefit his other brother, let him do so.’ (Muslim)

Many people are interested in donating blood voluntarily. But it is not possible to collect the blood needed for coordination. Although Bangladesh needs 500,000 bags of blood every year, only 25 percent of it comes through voluntary blood donors. 50% of the replacement is collected through donors or relatives and acquaintances and the remaining 25% is collected from professional blood donors. Those who sell blood for a living and for money are called professional blood donors. They go to different blood banks every two months to sell blood. So naturally their body is malnourished, so the blood they give is of no use. Amateur blood donors, on the other hand, donate blood voluntarily for human welfare at regular intervals, not in exchange for money.

Voluntary blood donation to save human life is not against Islam. Voluntary blood donation is at the forefront of all kinds of public welfare work. A healthy person can donate blood every three months without any physical harm. Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 55 can donate blood. If there is any disease while donating blood and some kind of antibiotic is given, it is better not to give unsafe blood at that moment. Before donating blood to someone, screening tests are done in the laboratory to make sure that the blood donor has any disease. A healthy adult can donate blood every three to four months for safe blood. The minimum weight for a voluntary blood donation is 50 kg or 100 pounds for men and 95 pounds for women.

In the eyes of Islam, there is no alternative to blood to save human lives. Blood cannot be stored for long. Therefore, everyone should be mentally prepared for voluntary blood donation in case of urgent humanitarian needs irrespective of race, religion, caste, party or opinion. Arranging a blood bank to meet the unlimited demand for blood and voluntary blood donation programs can be an effective initiative. While people are keen enough to donate blood voluntarily, motivation is not significant. Quantum, one of the organizations of Blood Bank, has taken various steps for motivation and public awareness. Besides, there is a blood bank of 'Sandhani' and 'Red Crescent', the first organization in Bangladesh. Bandhan, Rotary International and Lions Club work to collect donors. Necessary steps have to be taken for blood collection as well as safe storage. Religious people of the society, imams of mosques, khatibs and scholars should play a leading role in advancing the voluntary blood donation program. Since there are no religious restrictions on the lives of the dying and in public service, programs such as the celebration of World Blood Donation Day (June 14) will undoubtedly play a significant role in raising public awareness.
