Butterfly,the most colourful gift of nature,increases the beauty of our surroundings.

From our childhood,we are fascinated seeing the colorful eye-catching butterflies flying here and there.

Though we are very familiar with the butterflies,there are some unknown facts we don't know about them.

Beside their beauties,there life cycle is mesmerising.

My article is all about the unknown facts of butterflies life cycle.

1)Using of legs to taste food:

We are used to see butterflies flying over flowers to flowers.But do we know why they do it too often?

When butterflies search for food,they use their legs.They take the taste of food by their legs.

First they fly to a flower or a tree,then they hit the flower with there legs untill juices came out.

Then they examine and taste the juices with the chemoreceptors built in their legs.If they find the juices suitable to take,they drink it.

The female butterflies lay eggs on that tree too.So that the new generation of butterflies can get food easily.

In nature butterflies aren't the only creature,tastes food by their legs. Locusts and crickets also do it the same way.

2) Largely dependent on liquid food

Butterflies do not have any chewing organs inside their mouth. They have a tube type organ in their mouth.They use it to take liquid foods. Their first priority food is flower honey.

But the most interesting part is when the butterflies are in larvae or caterpillar phase,they had mandible type chewing organ.

As caterpillars can not fly or can not go anywhere to search for food ,they eat leafs to live in their initial stage of life.

3) Transparent wings

The most colourful creation of nature is butterfly.Their wings make them more attractive and colorful. But do you know the mystery behind the colorful wings?

The butterfly wings are made of a protein layer which is very thin.The protein layer has thousands of fiber around it.With the help of light, the fibers become more colourful.

When the butterflies grow older,the fibers around the wing gets lost.Then the transparency of their wings is visible.

The fibers around their wings is very necessary.It gives them more sustainability and strengthen the wings. Fibers also helps to balance their wings when they are flying.

As they grow older,when they search for food and at the time of reproduction they lost some of the fibers.To much losing of fibers is a big threat for their lives.It can cause them death.

4) A very short colorful life

The most colourful creation of nature,has the very short life span.A fully grown butterfly,lives upto 1-2 weeks.

Butterflies have the four stage of life:

1) Egg stage

2) Larvae

3) Pupa

4) Full grown butterfly

After the Puepa stage, their life begins as a full grown butterfly.

Then they use their whole life to search for food and reproduction.

But there are some species of butterflies,those can live upto 18 months.

5) Need to drink water

As we've said butterflies are fully dependent on liquid foods like honey and juices of flowers.But they need to drink water too when the temperature rises.

They are seen drinking water from wet sand and sometimes from the ponds

The minerals and salts are very important for their body.This drinking tendency is seen more in male butterflies.

It is thought that minerals are helpful for the reproduction.

6) Butterflies are unable to fly in the cold

Butterflies are cold blooded creatures. Their surrounding temperature plays a very big role in their lives.

If the surrounding temperature is low,their body temperature becomes lower too.This makes them unable to fly.

They are able to fly in temperature range between 60-108 degree Fahrenheit.

82-100 degree Fahrenheit is considered ideal for them.

7) Very weak eye sight.

Though they have visibility only 10-12 feets but they can distinguish the UV rays. They have 15 photoreceptor in their eyes which make it easy for them to find flowers, partner selection.

8) Intelligent camouflage pattern.

To save themselves from getting hunted, they make the best use of their colorful body. Their colorful body confuses other animals.

There are some species of butterflies,who took advantage of vibrant colours.It is said that colorful creatures are poisonous.That's why other animals ignores them.

9) Butterflies provide us food.

Are you thinking how can butterfly provide us food?Harvest only occurs when the pollination happens. Pollens need to carry from one plant to another in order to harvest.

When butterfly sit on a flower they carry some pollens through their legs and when they sit on another flower that way they completes the whole pollination process.

If pollination process is somehow stopped plants will be unable to harvest. Most of the plants are greatly dependent on bees, butterflies for pollination.

If there is no butterflies,there will be no pollination that means there will be no harvest and we will not get any food. Butterflies are the most important part of our nature.

Butterflies are the greatest colorful creation of nature. Moreover it is very helpful for our nature too.
